Don't pirate things. There are no viruses/intruders/spyware/trojans/adware for OS X (notice the Vista reference). You don't have to worry at all; surf happily!

When you download stuff illegally for free using limewire, torrents etc you can't be guarenteed that it will be safe.
If you want to make sure its safe, then pay for a legal download (that way the artists get paid too, and they keep on creating music for you to enjoy).

you never know if its safe...that's what is bad about pirating stuff, and the fact that its stealing. most of the time that stuff is pretty safe though

Its perfectly safe. All the viruses floating around on Limewire will have no affect on a mac. There Windows only.
Use Google to find it.

Well, if we trace your IP, 1 in 1. Don't get all high and mighty.

funny you brought that up. i recently got an email from my campus about stealing music. they are getting pretty strict on this and they can trace it back to your ip address. some of the fines are insane. im talking a couple hundred dollars per song. Doesn't matter if you have 3 songs or 3 thousand songs, the riaa is getting mean.

I do not ever condone pirating software, Limewire is not illegal to use, it is perfectly legal if you use it to download legal stuff. The OP did not mention downloading anything illegal. He has done nothing wrong (yet).
Still I think we should lock this thread.

As far as I know Limewire itself is not illegal however, Limewire is a p2p program used to download songs, videos, programs, etc. without purchase; a.k.a. copyright infringement. It's illegal.
Warez/Serials/Keys. Do not post software serial numbers or keys or refer people to specific websites or software whose purpose is to break or bypass software licensing methods, distribute cracks, or obtain or use commercial software or media in violation of its license and/or for copyright violation. Do not ask for or give such help.

Limewire also has many legal uses such as downloading Linux Distros, and is also a way of sharing freeware/open source applications which the owner could not afford the cost of the bandwidth to host.
So in a nutshell, Limewire is far from illegal, its people that use it illegally which spoil it.
From what I have seen, no one has broken any rules. No one has asked where he can illegally obtain anything.

I thought that was pretty obvious. Well yeah.
This really needs to be locked.
EDIT: I've reported twice. I think some others need to step up here. It's pretty
obvious the OP plans to illegally obtain music and this need to be closed.

You can't make that bold statement. It is illegal to download songs that are copyrighted, but what if the band wants to use p2p filesharing to spread their music. If it wasn't for p2p sharing (The Original Napster in particular), I know of at least one specific indie band, Dispatch, that wouldn't have been able to do what they did (like get 110,000 people to their final concert). They openly supported Napster, telling people to rip and burn away, and were actually at the congressional hearing on Napster and internet music sharing to make the point that independent bands can use these types of programs as a way to distribute their music and get the word out when they don't have radio play and a major corrupt label to promote them. So don't throw indie bands under the bus with all of the mainstream copyrighted music that is being pirated. When my band gets our CD finalized this summer, I will most definitely be posting it on every p2p sharing site and program out there, because for us, the more fans we have, the better.

Steve Jobs condones piracy. Clearly, the Macintosh was designed by and for pirates. You should go have a chatter with him about his phreaking days. I bought "iWoz" - good read!
Asking how to download questionable stuff on a forum that specifically forbids it is bad. Don't do it again.

Don't listen to all those dirty diapers spoiling your fun.
Anything and everything is safe to download through Limewire in OSX. Get it out of your head that there might be any danger, this is not a Microsoft operating system, there is no danger. There is no chance your IP will be traced, let alone you prosecuted. Its the idiots broadcasting their 20,000 songs all over the P2P system that get caught. Leeching is 100% safe.

I don't know about the US, but here in the Netherlands downloading isn't illegal, uploading is.

Forgive my asking but isn't the default operating principle of Limewire that it makes available a library of your stuff to the internet at large.. aka broadcasting?
I don't trust a piece of software that explicitly opens a portion of your hard drive to the world.
To the other P2P defenders: for the 0.5% of P2P traffic that is open source distros and music tracks explicitly made available by the copyright holders, you are absolutely correct. It is a legitimate and effective way to transfer those files.
For the other 99.5% of traffic in copyrighted songs and movies, which soaks up 40% - 60% of the internet's bandwidth, it is theft, it is wrong and a massive drain on the internet as a whole, which we will all pay for through higher rates and bandwidth throttling. Thanks a *&*@) of a lot, guys.
(% figures are estimates obviously)

if it is safe than can you tell me what songs are safe to getThat seems way too specific...Do not post software serial numbers or keys or refer people to specific websites or software whose purpose is to break or bypass software licensing methods, distribute cracks, or obtain or use commercial software or media in violation of its license and/or for copyright violation. Do not ask for or give such help. The rules
Discussing p2p, and the ethics involved are ok, specific questions about how to obtain copyrighted materials are not.
what are the chances ill get caughtBreaking different copyright laws: Slim!
Breaking MR rules: Relatively high!
