desktop printing question

Ok, I'm probably missing something simple here. I can't figure out how to change the print settings for the printer I'm using through desktop printing. I thought it would be sweet to throw a printer icon in the left column of the finder, and just drag files on it and instant print with no dialog boxes. It works great, except the print quality is set really low. Does it just use whatever the previous print was set on? I'd like to set it up with custom settings.

Try creating a custom preset in the print dialog.

I've got plenty of custom presets already. The problem is when I do a drag and drop on the desktop printer it automatically starts printing on what I assume is the standard preset. Meaning, I cant drag photos from a finder folder onto the icon and have it instantly print, because the output quality sucks.
