iTunes Music Store download "team". [Archive]

I don't know if this is against forum rules, but what if a large chunk of Mac Rumors members with an account at the iTunes Music Store went a purchased a pre-determined song? I wonder how much it would change the ratings.....

Here's what I was thinking: we take a look at one song in the iTMS, say, the Top Songs link in iTMS, and pick a song. We then all, en masse, on a pre-determined day, go and buy that song, and see if it changes its rating. Actually, we could do this with any song, not just one in the Top Songs link.

I think I'll start my own thread, and see where this goes.....

As far as I can tell, this is competely legal, if it's not, feel free to delete this thread.

Better be a damn good song or I won't waste a whole 99cents doing it.

My vote is for Cantina Band from the Star Wars sound track. It is the first song I will buy from my bookmarks and wouldn't it be funny if it ended up on the top ten downloaded songs some day?!!?!?

It should be legal. heck this site is so cool, Apple should link it somewhere on their website or incorporate it into their itunes and ipod pages somehow.

Your best bet is when Wing (http://www.wingmusic.co.nz/listen.html) gets a song or album into iTMS.

Of course if that happened, look for the world to end...soon.

This topic has come up before.... in that with the Billboard Digital Top songs being so new... it doesn't take that much movement to get a song in the top 10.

Of course, it's harder now then it was a month ago.

Thanks for the tip, I fixed it.

I want to get a general consensus as to what song we should all set out to buy. I know some people won't participate because they don't like the song, but I hope the majority of members do, out of the wish to see what we can accomplish.

i think you need a song sufficiently cool for folks to buy it and also something out of the blue that folks will think is odd on the top ten list.

i think sean connery would be a wasted purchase and everybody knows wallflowers.

great song, great album; therefore i don't think it would work as well; people aren't going to think twice if a "normal" song shows up among 9 other normal songs. i think something like the cantina band song would be fantastic, because it would be so out of place.

his music was in the first and second Matrix movies, the Matrix game, and in a slew of commercials. He is relatively unknown in the States, 'Furious Angels' is another recommendation.

The first Matrix had Clubbed to death(Kuriomino(sp) Remix)
the second had 'Chateau' and 'I'm not Driving Anymore'(instrumental) and 'Furious angels' (instrumental)

I think the only way this is going to work is if we get enough people in volved. I've seen 6 individuals post on this thread, I just wonder if this could say, be put on the main Mac Rumors page. This would mean getting arn interested, and he already seems jaded to the idea. Does anyone have any bright ideas how we could A. convince him and B. get more people involved?

What exactly would the purpose of trying to bump a song into the iTMS Top Ten be? Just to do it? To be able to look at it and say, "we did that?" The humor of getting something bizzare into the Top Ten?

How about the "What's Opera, Doc?" track? (y'know, the Kill The Wabbit sequence)? That shouldn't offend anyone too much, is always good for a laugh, and would look absolutely ludicrous at #1. :D

I like "Furious Angels" better with the words. :)

How about 10 or so songs get nominated, and the poll for one day choose which song to buy. People can commit to buying that one song that the poll chooses before the poll occurs.

Just a thought.

Personally, I'd go for anything in The Planets by Holst, but I doubt that's at the iTunes Music Store. Great, great songs nonetheless, especially Jupiter and Mars (which the Gladiator soundtrack is heavily based upon)

That's a great idea! Come Monday I'll put together a poll. Everyone keep suggesting songs, and I'll have a poll for you Monday night. I'll let it run until Tuesday night or later, depending. Maybe longer.

Ah man, I've already got that one too! Another good one is Brave Combo & Tiny Tim's "Hey Jude" - the sample doesn't play the absolute genius part—the beginning—but it's still very, very good.
