I have a Linksys WPC54G card from 2003 up on eBay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270234392877) that uses the same Broadcom chipset as the AirPort Extreme card. AFAIK, it's the only way to get 802.11g in a the pre-AP-Extreme PowerBooks. Does not require any drivers in OS X.
