I can't imagine a 20" iMac, but if it's ThinkSecret, might as well take it as the truth.

Well, we'll see... within the hour.

:D

Apple Store Special Deals page lists a "previous generation" eMac:
http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/70906/wo/Gh3m59jJI1mt2DljkXV13hPL2su/0.0.7.1.0.5.13.0.3.0.0.0.0.3.1.1.0?82,73

Doesn't look any different to me than the "current" generation eMac:
http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/70906/wo/Gh3m59jJI1mt2DljkXV13hPL2su/0.0.7.1.0.5.21.1.2.1.0.0.0.1.0

They had to get rid of those previous generation units quick. ;)

But they did have the old low end models for $699 for awhile new, and $580 refurbished.

Yes, but they are the both the same price. Why would I want to buy a model that is also presumably without Panther for the same price? If it is clearance, then it should have a lower price as incentive. If the hardware itself hasn't changed, then it is still physically possible for it to boot into OS9. I don't see any change in the hardware configuration.
