I'm thinking of selling my G5 1.8 single with 1.5 RAM.
I'm trying to decide if I should add a new hard drive to it- as I hear even an erased hard drive still has information on it.
How much are these going for and how big of a HD should I add before selling?

If you're really concerned about security and have the restore discs, just put them in and do a reinstall but click on security and do at least a 7 zero out pass. Will take a while depending on the drive size. I think that'll be enough where even the FBI can't get anything to incriminate you ;).

Not sure how much-that's why I was putting the feelers out there.
I'd probably end up putting Leopard on it- as I'm not sure where the original install discs are. But I do have the original box!

Any OS X intstall DVD that can start your computer has the capability of wiping a hard drive.
Start off the disc, click the language you want on the screen, and then at the menu (at the top) choose Utilities->Disk Utility. Click your hard drive, then click the Erase button.
1 pass 0s – data can be retrieved
3 pass random – data is toasted, but with a lot of time, effort, and money, you might get enough bits back together to see some parts of some files
7 pass random – data toast?
35 pass random – hard drive toast?

I ended up selling mine, same specs as yours (bigger HD) for about $600 give or take $50 I forget. I tried to get more for months on Craigslist but that's the best offer so I took it.
