Announcement: DUAL G5 OWNAGE UT2k3 CLAN [Archive]

On the behalf of the ever increasing high-end Mac gaming community, we're proud to announce that a new clan is born. Our very first, very own, Unreal Tournament 2003 clan is now official! And just to make a statement, it's called the DUAL G5 OWNAGE CLAN.

Of course, this clan is open to every Mac gamer with the ability to run UT2k3, and we wish as many as possible welcome to our clan! Just notify us by sending a PM or contact us on iChat if you want to join our awesome clan.

The "Dual G5 Ownage" Clan name exists due to a discussion with a PC user. :D

No. You have a choice you can either host from the game and that's all you can do. You can host and play from the game simultaneously. Finally you can host from a server that run in the terminal. The last one has the least overhead and can handle the most players.

whats all invlolved with joining? also will there be a certain time when the server will be up and running? iam thinking about it though i have never joined any kind of clan but think it is cool to play with a better crowd( i mean mac users);)

Well, all you need to join is to be a Mac user. :D

And this clan is really fresh, so we don't have any specific practice times and stuff. We'll get those details cleared out in some time. But for now, we're all on iChat and just contact each other when we want to play. ;)

My G4 933 is not enough for the ownage with the current setup!
My GF4 MX sucks. What is a cheap and of course better gfx card for my machine? Don´t want to spend a lot.

Is it just me, or does UT run in highest details as fast as with lowest? No matter what I do - its jerky all the time, and it even is worse if I reduce the details.

That's pretty much the case on detail with the demo. From what I have heard the final version is a lot better when it comes to FPS scaling based on graphic detail. Also the final version with the latest update runs about 30% faster then the demo.

Have you done any of the .ini optimizations? I'm assuming you have the demo.

There's really not all that much options in the video card realm. The NVidia G4MX pops out nearly as much FPS as the ATI9000 so that wouldn't be much of an option for you. The only other options are the ATI9800 and the NVidia Ti4600.

I have the ATI9800 and really like it but the performance difference will not be that great on your mac as the cpu will be the limiting factor. I would pick up the Ti4600 because the price is so much cheaper for a really fast card.

Your going to end up with a pretty weak clan if that's your only joining condition.

However I'll consider joining when I get a copy of URT2K3, my mac is an LC-475(however I have other computers)

How to respond.

Yes fun is the number 1 reason to play games, that's why I do ayway,
You are also in need of clan members, since strength lies in numbers, but a tryout system of some sort would be of benift. Currently every man and his dog who owns a mac and a copy of UT2K3 can join, you don't even know if they play regularly, or their skill level.

I'm just trying to help, and improve on a fantastic idea.

I'm not joining any clan to be go compete in tournaments. I just want to play and have fun against others with similar systems and have fun. Also I don't really want to compete or play with people that are so obsessive that online gaming is all they do. It's no fun then. They kick your ass and they think it's fun but it's become a job to them. Fun it just dooking it out with a bunch of friends. I've played with some PC clans and they're so damn serious you just want to shove a pineapple up there ass but they wouldn't feel it because they're too intent on the next frag. The most fun I have ever had on a game server was back when MacAddict first started hosting an Unreal Tournament server several years ago. It was a blast. Just a bunch of Mac users wanting to have fun. Then MacAddict kind of neglected the site and let one map run for days and then they shifted to QuakeIIIArena which I didn't have and the whole thing just went down hill.

Ok. So we had some startup problems with our new dedicated server, but it seems to work perfectly now!

And so is our new site's visuals and navigation system! I had some major problems about color treatment in different browsers, but after a LOT of work, I solved every problem... phew. :D

And BTW, for those of you who doesn't check our forums, please check out the new thread about changing our name into something a bit more serious...

Changing clan name? TO be honest I think "Ownage" and "DUAL" dont make too much sense.... Most people here don't have dual g5s to beging with and i doubt we can seriously own anyone yet :)
But i dont have much beef with the name, if you like it, it's fine.

Hey to all of [G5] members, I just upgraded connection from silver to gold.
Now I get about 300+kbs actual dl speed from server and about 75-90kbs upload.
I'm hoping to get UT2003 by thursday and then i'll try to host here in USA.
Here is test from icq server for dl...

Do you mean KBs as in Kilybytes? Kb is Kilobit. 8 bits in a byte.

Anytime you are talking about memory a lowercase b is bit and an upper case is byte just so you know.

I ran a Quake3 clan for a year in 2001, all mac users. The {CRAP} clan members didn't take ourselves too seriously but did get rather good at CTF. If you are looking for members beyond people who join here, you could try a few 'clan try-outs' at gameranger (http://www.gameranger.com) - mac only hardcore gamers. Good luck with the clan, only wish I had a powerful enough mac to run UT2k3....ah well perhaps next year.

Crap Freakboy : Thanks for the advice. :) Will create some clan try-outs on Gameranger. Regarding your Mac not being able to run UT2K3, well all i can say is, that as soon as you have a Mac to run it, you are welcome to our clan!

I would like to say that we will be having our first Clan Match today at 11PM GMT. So I expect to see all members there today for some serious pratice and of course... some serious fighting for the Redeemer! :D

Yeah, I saw the pic but it was a bit confusing since you said you had a 300kb connection when the photo showed a 378KB connection. It almost made me question why you put the photo in. Good to know then.

So what is your Gold connection suppose to be or is it unlimited?

At 378KB that would be a 3Mb connection pretty impressive. 90KB upload would be 720Kb which means it's probably a 750Kb connection. Is that close to what you're suppose to be getting?

Silver here is 1.5/384
Gold is 2.5+/640+ (thats what they claim. From the fast servers upload is about 70-80 usually. rarely gets close to 90)
