I am in possession of 2 (two) Sony SMO-S501 Magneto Optical Disk Drives.

They are fully functional and of no use to me anymore as I have stopped lending back-up equipment to 'customers' and friends.

These drives are quite old (early 1990's) but from what I can find on the web; are being sold for (US) $400 - $500 each. Once on the chain, they can run the system OS.

They have the twin 50 pin SCSI connectors and can be added to a chain in any position or address. I have a (one) head cleaner and manual as well. I have power cables but not SCSI cables for each.

If anyone is interested in purchasing one, give me a quick email and ask any questions you like. I will try to answer and we can decide mutually, if this would be a good acquisition for your hardware kit.

I would let them go for half the above price but am obviously open to offers of less or trades for Mac 7500 Sonnet G4 800 cards or something... :)

I have done some more research and found that these drives are not worth nearly as much as I was quoted and subsequently quoted in my earlier post above. :(

I am prepared to sell one as an internal (no box, power supply etc.) and one as an external, if more desirable that way.

These are the 640 Mb (320 Mb per side) 512 byte/sector variety - 5 1/2" Sony Drives. I also have at least 2 disks that I can "give away" with each one. These removable disks are working perfectly and cost about $100.00 (US) new. I will re-format each disk for Mac on both sides.

If anyone is remotely interested, let me know and we can discuss it from there to determine some sort of price and configuration that is mutually acceptable.

These drives have worked on PC's, Sun and Mac machines via SCSI.
