Routine maintanence through terminal

I was cleaning up my panther install with the sudo periodic daily/weekly command and on my previous installation (panther) it showed text letting me know something was happening during this process and on this install i type the command and then it just scrolls down a line and is ready for the next command. Is it working or not?

My 10.3.1 does not show any indication of progress, but I believe it is working.

Mine doesn't say anything, but it does grind the hard drive and run slowly until its finished, which signals me to think that it is working.
