View Full Version : Rumor mill: Tape may show Mrs.Obama using a racial slur against Caucasian Americans!

There are a few rumors floating around the net that a tape exist of Mrs Obama using the hate-filled slur 'whitey' against Caucasian Americans. Also, and I stress the rumor nature of this - but it might have been at a rally with Luis Farrakhan. Before I continue, I must apologize for using this slur - I'm a Caucasian American, and I know how hurtful it can be - but i guess we have to accept that there are just some people that are full of hate out there.

If she did use this ugly slur against Caucasian Americans - then I think this election may just be over. If it turns out it was with Luis Farrakhan, then I think President McCain is an almost sure lock. :D

Again, I stress this is a rumor. We all know that the internet can be an echo chamber for thing like this. It might be a DNC plant, or just some wishful thinking by some of us Republicans that has developed its own life.

Doubtful. And it wouldn't dissuade anyone who's already planning to vote for him, regardless.

Caucasian American? My God you have a complex. You're white. Barack Obama is Black. It's not racist to say such a thing.

To use the terminology of teh interwebs: "pictures or it didn't happen".

(Yet again the US Presidential campaign gets sidetracked onto the topics of rumours, race, lapel pins and the church. It's fortunate that there's nothing important happening in the world, eh? )

Jack Flash

Oh, and Full of Win, does it bother you that McCain doesn't wear a Flag Lapel Pin?

And Barack Obama has nothing to do with Reverend Wright and has condemned his statements. I guess you selectively forgot that.

I have been called whitey by many folks but never percieved any hate filling. And no, it will not affect my vote either way. I'm tired of dirty laundry politics... I would run for an office myself just to get the good old boys out of there but there are way too many skeletons in the proverbial closet that could be used against me in a political campaign, never even would get elected to hall monitor, although factually I would make an excellent hall monitor.;)

I'm sorry, but a rumor from where?

This is how rumors start, well I heard XYZ.

Unless you have some proof, keep it to yourself. Plus there isn't even a new reports on this.

100% made up until I see proof saying otherwise.

Other's say she is saying "why'd he...." referring to Bush and it can be taken or interpreted as "whitey."

We shall see. It's hard for me to think she really would say something so inflammatory. Who knows?

The so called bomb is allegedly why Hilary is staying in. The GOP is supposed to drop it after he gets the nomination and has been using it for McCain fundraising.

So... you guys refer to your African-American friends as "blackies", right?

I don't believe that such a tape exists, but if she did in fact use those words it would have been offensive.

When was this alleged incident? Why didn't Clinton trot it out during the primaries? If prior to 2004 why didn't Alan Keyes use it? He had a fun issues page (http://www.keyes2004.com/keyes-obama.php) while he was running, a tape like that should have been right up his alley.

I call shenanigans.

All these self righteously indignant at racial slurs people are the racists imo. Now 'cracker', that would get my blood boiling.

Clinton doesn't have it. The GOP allegedly does and they're having fun watching the Dem.'s eat each other alive over the MI/FL debacle. They're well aware of the Clinton machine and its tenacity.

Allegedly, it was from her talking at their church. Again, I've read that she repeatedly said "why'd he..." referring to Bush's handling of Katrina, Iraq, etc. and it is being made to sound like "whitey."

The idea is it'll be used in August - Sept.

If it indeed exists, there were more than just GOP members who knew about it and had access to it. I doubt that anything this volatile could have survived this primary season if it is indeed real. If it's fake I expect everyone who called for Dan Rather's head on a platter to be just as adamant about whomever reports this to be the real deal. But somehow I think this will fall into the category of IOIYAR.

Yeah, Larry Johnson was supposed to release this at 9am this morning, but for some odd reason he has yet to be able to produce the tape he was claiming was so bad -- yet he apparently hasn't even seen it yet. He's just going off what someone else told him.

If it's true, it's a real problem for Obama. But the longer this drags out, the less I think it's anywhere near as damaging as it's been made out to be.

On a side note, Larry, what happened to ye....

Don't panic
Jun 2, 2008, 05:11 PM
come on, the OP was surely in jest?

"i know how hurtful it can be" can't be actually real?

people really consider 'whitey' a 'hate-filled' 'ugly' slur? (yes, i am 'whitey').

anyways, if it does exist and it's not fully out yet, it's probably because whoever has it reckons they can do much more damage for it being talked about than being heard. in other words, if it exists, its probably quite harmless i context

Bitch, she should resign from the wife position post haste and make way for Oprah.

At least that way the wife would most likely be somebody to toss out a slur against a farm animal -- and likely get sued by the poultry industry for the nasty slur against white meat and chicken nuggets.

[too lazy to insert silly smilie]

Over the word whitey? Are you kidding me? I used to call me friend that, I never knew it was a racial thing. I agree though, I doubt it happened. I actually didn't think people still used that word.

PEACE OUT B****ES!

Despite the GOP "saving it" for later, this would have no doubt been all over the internets by now if it were true.

If this is a preview of the GOP tactics we're going to have to see during the general election, this may possibly be one of the most desperate and dirty elections that I'll see in my lifetime.

I never knew it was a racial thing.

Whitey, in American slang, a derogatory racist term for white people. See Cracker (pejorative).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whitey

It has been a racist term against whites for as long as I can remember.

I'm all for white guys calling each other the "c" word, but when another race does it, it's blatant racism.

e.g.
"I do say Charles, you are quite the crispy cracker. Ha, ha, ha, ha." -- That's okay.

"Waz up crackah?" (in a Dave Chapelle voice) -- I'm highly offended.

I have no opinion on this unless and until somebody can show up with proof of it.

What I can tell you now is that, in general, I would hesitate to blame someone for a stupid statement, hypothetical or otherwise, made by that person's spouse.

God, if my wife were held responsible for every idiotic thing that came out of my mouth, she'd go into the Witness Protection Program.

And of course, for all those worried about a potential racist slur from the wife of a candidate... What if a candidate for president used a sexist slur? About his own wife no less?

'Cause John McCain got caught calling his wife a c-word that rhymes with 'punt'.

If we're so obsessed with a potential slur against an entire race, why wouldn't we be just as upset and obsessed with an actual slur against someone who represents half the population of the world?

It's a racist term.It may be a racist term, but it certainly is not a "hate-filled slur", Michelle Obama certainly would not have used it, and the crowing, triumphalist tone of Full of Win's scurrilous post is itself ample evidence of a dangerously unhinged and visceral reaction. This is the politics of the lynch mob.

What I have noticed about Barack is he maintains control and seemingly does not get flustered. He handles himself very well. He knows full well he is going to encounter a great number of sharks in the water. What needs to be done is to get the mainstream news to act like skeptical news journalists, and quit parroting the right-wing talking points. What is working in our favor, which did not exist in 2000 & 2004, is a strong (over 3 million daily), well organized, progressive Blogosphere.
