The sound of creaking leather and clinking pie pans tells of a veteran's return.

With a rush of dusty overcoat and a cackle the figure dissapears into the Men's room with a duffle worn with miles and years of use. Soon the sickly sweet smells of warming grease-paint and canister whip-cream waft under the door.

The few old timers to sense the oncoming rush of pie-play move their Poker games and cups to the balcony or into the deep shadows like those from which the apparition appeared. Behind the bar a dusty Pie rig's oilcloth cover is swept aside.

When the lights come back on the hulking clown stands amid the fallen, smoking pie-launcher cocked against his shoulder.

SunBaked lies sprawled and unconscious, his puppet blown off by seltzer and the nefarious activities of his other hand laid plain by pie volleys.

Vniow, unprotected by ambiguous pronouns lies amid the spent remnants, nearly buried in pie shrapnel. Only the knobby knees and heels remain clearly visible.

The clown turns to the Poker game at the back of the hall.

" J-Lo.... Nice stain."
