With ever increasing trackpad sizes and utility, it is without a doubt guaranteed that Apple will continue in its stubbornness and well, simply make the mouse button larger.

Dividing it into two buttons? Never!

Although this topic has been visited ad nauseum, it is simply becoming ridiculous that the "feature" is not available as an option or even a thought.

Ah yes, but the two finger tap is so much more "elegant." Then why even have a mouse button? Many would answer, yea, throw that out too. But the fact is, if you have a mouse button, there's no harm in having a second. Just like there is a one finger tap, and Apple has decided to include, as a right click function, a two finger tap.

The fact that the enormous (and growing) single click button remains just that, a single button, but Apple integrated the "elegant" use of a two finger tap, implies simply that it is stubbornness (evolved from years upon years of brand building and, well, stubbornness) that prevents the mythical second mouse button to be installed, or even be offered, on a macbook.

The ONE thing that upsets me about macs, as a longtime PC user but current Mac user, is the mac homers.

Some defend the single button by saying it forces developers to avoid the use of a right click, which to me, is an excellent and elegant solution in itself. Imagine if there never existed a "right click." Steve would suddenly be Einstein for having invented or implemented it.
Then why include a two finger tap? That pretty much opens the floodgates for developers, yet, dont include a second mouse button?

I apologize to all the right-thumb clickers that would be infuriated by a button on the "right half." But well, couldnt you just set it to left click?

Ridiculous. I'm just going to stop. For all its ingenuity, Apple sure still has a foot, or maybe, a thumb, stuck in the stone age.

right sorry to be a complete sceptic and general arse on this, and congrats on giving it a go mate . . . but apple nor any other PC company are gonna go this far, silly and pointless for general usage unless you have a 50" screen . . .

i hate uncooperative posts and all that jazz but i think this post is crazy mate! Im no expert either! :cool:so yeah, can we have a mockup with realistic features as we all have to wait a couple more months! Techno is moving WAY too quickly for examples like that! haha! rethink???

SUMMARY:

Please make the large button (on the current MBs, its already quite large), into two. Make it an option to have them both do the same thing, but the only thing that it hurts to divide that massive button into TWO buttons, is PRIDE.

Suck it up Steve.

congradulations you have made yourself a troll.

Now you are qualified to go to the console gaming thread and defend the name of the Wii.

HERE's and idea.

Keep the SINGLE button. but at least have a -feature- that the right side of the button can have an alternate use.

NOVEL? NO.

FUNCTIONAL AND LACKING? YES!!!

Not a wii fan, and not a troll. I can't express my frustration with this issue?

Thanks for trolling my thread. If you don't have anything nice to say.

personally i am not trolling, fair play for having a go. Can i assume that you are a young generation??? I just know that I would not buy a mac such such a crazy set up . .. and I agree that the button should be in two! No offence though like!

How would you write with the Keyboard without doing something else with the trackpad? I mean where do you want to have your hands without touching it?

ditto, i'd hate the huge trackpad. I already touch the trackpad when I'm typing and move the cursor as it is. Annoying, but i can withstand it. Now, a trackpad that takes up the entire palm rest? Plus i can see many accidental clicks with the button extending nearly the entire length of the top case.

Thinkpad, here I come!

This thread did turn into a brawl. I do prefer the "hold two fingers" to rightclick approach but it wouldnt hurt to seperate the bad maybe not physically but do like the eeePC does. Depending on what side you click you get right or left.

hahaha. Hilarious.

It is true. I used a mbair at the apple store and thought the mouse button looked stupid. Might as well have a space bar there. It also feels weird to click such a large button.

I'm more concerned that the corners of the mouse button are like razor blades.... Also, there is no reason the mouse button needs to extend all the way as large as the trackpad.

I don't find myself missing a second mouse button though...but mostly because I use a wireless mouse.

If you use some common sense, and I hope apple uses this and decides to keep the trackpad the same size, if the trackpad gets any larger, where are you going to put your palms? Are you just going to move the pointers everywhere when you're typing, and disable trackpad click? Trackpad size is perfect as it is.

Can I ask what main function (application dependent) you guys want to do with right clicking? It's a serious question because when using my MBP I never think "I wish I had a right button", so I'm now wondering if I'm missing out on something?

copy, paste, get info, save as, save link as, open link in new tab...the list goes on, and its called two finger tapping, no need for a second button:)

to me two finger secondary click is MUCH better than a second mouse button

and no offence OP, but that notebook...where am i suposed to rest my arms/palms when typing? on the track pad button?

Going back to alphaod's comment, re-read point 1. This has been discussed already.
