I'm REALLY interested in starting on building a killer protools(HD)/Digital Performer/RADAR system to interface into and with my analog gear, O2R, ADAT's, etc.

Construction should begin on the physical studio next month. That gives me about 8 months to research, purchase and build the computing system.

I'm very interested in building a "supercomputer" style of system, whereby the system is always capable of real time processor sharing of data and applications across the network and the "internet" (VPN's and the like.)

I may not be expressing myself clearly, so please forgive me as I delve into yet another facet of audio/imaging and computing.

One of the biggest challenges I see is creating enough processing power/speed to be utilizing A/D converters to integrate analog gear in the processing loops (insert chains) and get the processed (compressed/gated/amplified) signal processed back through D/A's and not suffer latency issues. If I have multiple processors throughout the chain, then I "theoretically" have the ability to set the latency of the slowest device/signal to sync with the fastest one.

Am I making sense? If I am, does anyone have recommendations for hardware/software developers to consult with?

Thanx,
Max
