Well I was trying to upload my avatar but I am pretty new here and since I am consider a newbie I was actually wondering WHY IN THE WORLD do I need 500 post for a freaking picture I don't get it, Im sorry but in other forums you only need like 30 or 20 post, I think 500 is insane is going to take forever when I don't necessarily need to post for something, all I do is is reading and learning and maybe if a really do need something I will post, but 500 please is just annoying I understand the rules but I think specially that this need an update to be change it !!!!:mad::mad::mad::apple::apple::eek:

If you don't like it, then leave. If this rule keeps out people with bad attitudes like you, then I'm glad the rule is there. Heck, if it works that way then I say we kick it up to 1000 posts!

OK look is not my attitude is just that I think that many people new like me would like to have an avatar and it doesn't matter how many post you do is just that I consider that 500 is a lot and not many people post like you plus that I only come here to the forum to read and yes why not to learn since I am new to MACS.

If you wanna learn something here, then enjoy. But if you wanna post rants complaining about the site when you've contributed nothing to the community, then you're just making the site worse. On top of which, you posted your useless rant in the completely wrong forum, which doubles its negative effect on the forum. When you start coming to a new forum it's common courtesy to lurk for a little while and get a sense for how the forum operates before you post anything. And that's especially true if your post is a rant!

Agreed. I honestly think that newbies should be locked out of a majority of the forums since a good deal of them don't stay long enough to contribute quality posts.

OK look is not my attitude is just that I think that many people new like me would like to have an avatar and it doesn't matter how many post you do....

So you want something without working for it.

Sounds about right, following suite with the rest of the world.

Out of the thousands of members on this forum that waited months if not years to get an avatar and a call number YOU think Mac Rumors should change the rules simply so you can add your photo.

No, I don't think so. I could care less, but come with a better reason than that.

This is not a matter of a picture, I just don't get it, I understand the rules and I get that many people here didn't say anything which I understand that too but just because I am making my opinion here and am not insulting and I am not being discourteous to anybody I don't see why it looks like it since i say something I only see negative reactions to it, I am not making this to make the forum to be negative or to have it change, completetly wrong but since it looks like nobody can't say something like i did then there is no much to say this is just kind of sad!! because i like the stuff that i learn here but i guess I see how it is .......

And i don't like this bebetc Thread Starter as well just because of what I say !!!

That was added at member request to help keep track of who "owned" the original post and follow-on comments. It's there for your benefit, as that of those who want to reply to the right person and keep track of the thread's progress as seen through your perspective. It's on all threads you start.

You may also note that your username is boldfaced for you, to help you find posts you've made in any thread you post in.

I'm sorry, but what are you prevented from doing by not having an avatar? Avatars are viewed as privileges here, and are used for user benefit. Once you have reached the 500 post mark, you are allowed an avatar. If you have posted 500 times, then you are probably going to have developed a reputation for yourself, and would have a noticeable presence here on the boards. Avatars are essentially gifts so users can be more easily identified when they contribute to a thread, which is a good thing for that user. It is also a way for other users to see that a user is a "veteran" member here, and what they say has some credibility behind it because of who they are, which is more easily identified by their avatar. When I see the big Q with the binary code behind it, I know that it is Doctor Q, when I see the old Windows XP avatar, I know that it is mad jew, granted these two are a god and mod here and you know them pretty much because they are in those positions, but another example is the welcoming Red Sox circle logo which belongs to brn2ski00. You begin to develop a lot of respect for members and they are more noticeable in the threads. Another one is bluedoggiant's apple on the back of the alum iMac. Those are just off the top of my head, but it shows how much more noticeable a user is when they post, thus a privilege, but if everybody were to have an avatar, then people's wouldn't stick out and avatar's would be pointless.

I am a member of another forum that uses the same forum system as here (vBulletin) and they don't have any restrictions on avatar use, and thus about 99/100 people there have one, avatar's are essentially pointless there and I chose not to have one, and it makes me feel that by not having an avatar, I actually stick out more and am more noticeable to the readers.

If everything here bothers you so much, how about finding another forum that suits you better? Also try writing in sentences instead of just endlessly stringing words together.

Bebetec - I apologise for some of the more forceful responses that you've recieved. You can't have a 'tar just yet, they're just the rules.

While it may seem odd, you've got to trust the mods and admins - they've created on of the best communities on the intertubes. Stick with it, and you'll get a lot out of your time here.

I guess that starting this thread and replying to all the flame posts that you receive should send you well on the way to 500! ;)

The 500 posts thing doesnt have as important a function as the "thread starter" tag to my way of thinking. As a result of this thread I am starting to feel like there is a bit of elitism and forced competitiveness going on here.
We are all strangers and equals on the internet. I will never enjoy the kind of serparational psychology that makes people feel left out. Everyone has an identity and we all enjoy expressing it. Of course we can all become avatar members but 500 post limit makes it unlikely that anyone who has anything of substance to say will make it within any reasonable timeframe.
I have always believed that the kind of person who makes endless posts in forums may very well be the kind of person who talks endlessly in the real world and who I may feel the need to avoid if we met in a social setting.
Silence is golden.

You would be suprised at the amount of people who will spam their way (or attempt to) an avatar.
If the number were less, it would be more appealing to try.

Well, I joined MR for the sole purpose of of uploading an avatar and I blazed my way up to 500 posts in like no time!!!11 It's like so easy to post complete drivvle until you get like a total 500 posts!!! :D :D:D Ithink more people should joined up just to have a really awesome avatar. Gotta post 500 times first though!! it's really really easy!!!
[/sarcasm]

Seriously... I don't think post count is a status symbol. There are other ways to prove your manliness (or womanliness if that be the case). I agree with Yellow: IF the number were lower, I think we'd see certain types of users sticking around that much longer. That fact is, 500 posts discourages one from posting just to drive his count up. I wouldn't mind if they had them set 1,000.

I joined MR as I wanted to be a part of a community which I have heard good things about, I am used to many forums who use the same methods as MR, and 500posts is not that much.
