I'm not even going to bother with Photoshop.....I'll spare you all the agony. I would love a -- hold your breath -- BLACK Powerbook! Silver is so played out.

Hmmmm, seems to me that black is a little bit played out in laptops in general. I like the Apple silver, like it sets the apart from the mass of cheap-o black plastic laptops. I personally own and am posting from a 15inch AluBook, and I love the way it looks. Also the keyboard dark on light as opposed to a black keyboard with white letters, it is much easier to see.

My dream machine is a G5 dual 4 Ghz that I get for free from some distant relative (because none of my relatives have any money :D).

How about a very dark gray, with little red LEDs ? You can't go wrong with red LED's...

How about a mac with a holographic screen...a little too far fetched???? Hmmmm... a G5 12" powerbook with a 8 hour battery life? Black metal though - like some Zippos - none of this nasty plastic stuff Dell uses.

I was just thinking this morning. Wouldn't a black ipod be cool....

Well - what is perfect ?

On my perfect Mac I would never ever have to wait for the machine. It should perform every task immediatly. Even rendering stuff etc...

Thats the machine I am waiting for.

Currently the Mac that I have is perfect for my use. I agree with CmdrLaForge on his signature, "Mac OS X 10.2.8 - never change a running system :-)." For me that is just the way that I feel about my Mac OS 9.2.2.

I'd use something like this... if it had dual 3 GHz G5s.

Is that your vision for a Cube design?

this really can't be shown visually, but what about G5s in all powerbooks and a dual G4 option for all ibooks for x-amount of dollars more...well heck, how about G5s in all apple portables across the board...now that would be cool:p

That's the badger!

and not black plastic either, why do people think plastic when you say black, and when you say metal , think silver?

though i would want a g5 more than anything else, i think an athlon 64 machine is a great tool and it would honestly be the best gaming machine out there for the money

macworld's benchmarks showed an athlon 64 machine to be more powerful than the g5 powermac, but i think the factor which makes me favor the powermac is osx

and before that, classic mac os beat the tar out of windows 98 and windows 95

in the end, it's the interface between the user and the operating system which gives one a good or bad experience

Current dream machine sounds stupid, but realistic:

12 inch Aluminum Powerbook with current specs... but able to boot into OS 9 with full and complete software integration with OS 9 apps, a small 1MB L3 cache, and strictly a DVD-ROM drive, no CD-RW.

Also, I don't want to have to clean the Aluminum, but I also don't want the alloy to absorb a lot of dirt. Something of a different, shinny alloy would be nice.

my idea for a desktop replacement, although not extrmely practical for travel. It has G5 processor(s), 2 GB pc3200 RAM, 128MB VRAM etc...

how does this hinge work ?

jeff.macaddict
Dec 14, 2003, 01:15 AM
(see my previous post-pict attached)

The hinge design is very complicated but kinda makes sense, if you can get inside my head. It is possible through a series of stiff hinges and a crazy designer.

Some rough sketches of the closing operation are attached. As you can see, it is not as cleen or rugidly designed as the aluminum books or ibooks. I think it looks cool when it is open and operating-the same way the iMac G4 looks cool, with the arm (monitor hinge) thing and all.
