My co-worker came in with one of these and wants to know if he can get it to work on a mac before he opens the box... otherwise he'll just pass it on as a xmass gift.

I went to the Nomad website, and found that they do not have drivers for it and OSX - or OS9

Does anyone know of a 3rd party solution?

Thanks

no drivers means 1 of 2 things..

1. it doesn't need drivers to work

2. it will not work at all

no guarantees, but:

it's basically an usb flash drive with an attachment to play music and hold battery. since it works with windows 98SE, it's probably FAT formatted.

if such is the case, Mac should be able to read/write to FAT.

so i think chances are pretty good that it will work with a Mac.

Hmm well I have an old Samsung Yepp that came with its own software to download and delete songs. Unfortunately it has to be launched in OS9. I believe you may be able to transfer songs to the Nomad from Audion player. It really sucks that itunes doesn't recognized media players other than the iPod. Ahh well.

Here's the link btw, hope this is what you're looking for.

i was under the impression you could just drag and drop mp3s onto these usb flash drive based players... the usb flash drive would show up as another removable disk on the desktop... and the attachment would figure out which files are mp3s and play them...

i'm probably wrong.

I have a regular Creative Labs MuVo and it works (doesn't need drivers). You can bet on the NX working as well.

It should work without problems by just dragging and dropping.

Cool, thanks - I'll let him know.
And I'll post here if he does it.

Before I decided to save my money for an iPod, I was seriously eyeing the Nomad MuVo. It seemed like a pretty good idea: Flash Drive and MP3 Player in one.

Ya, the muvo is pretty cool.

From personal experience, it's been quite handy - I took it with me to a party one time and there was a dude there that wanted to see my resume... luckily I had it stored on there :D (I even got the job too)

Buddy of mine showed me his Muvo he just picked up today not even two hours ago. It's capacity was 1.5GB and I must say it was pretty tiny. I'd still much rather have an iPod but I guess I'll have to wait till Santa brings me one.

FYI everyone
It works. iTunes does not see it, but you can drag and drop MP3's to it.

Thanks for all the input.

Glad to hear. Hope he enjoys it :) I wanted a MuVo NX but I only had enough for the regular MuVo at the time ;(
