Your friend needs to secure a legal copy of Windows XP or Vista and follow the directions for installation ;)

Doesn't matter. He should save up, then. Even though it's Microsoft, you shouldn't steal it.

I can only tell you this, just because its software doesnt mean it has to be free. I am a college student as well and guess what? A friend of mine got leopard 1 week before I did and he even offered me to install his copy in my Macbook. The offer was tempting but I said NO. So I bought Leopard with my own saved money (had to skip a meal or two, but its worth the sacrifice) and I feel happy with it. Being "poor" is not an excuse to steal! Hell, just because I cant afford a Ferrari doesn't mean I am going to steal it.
