Does anyone know where I can get the font used for the matrix, I can't see a mac version anywhere :( only peecee.

To add to the search, how about a matrix screen saver, the one I had on my pc was pretty damn cool.

You know, of course, that if you're running OS X you can use "PC" True Type fonts?

Where's a picture of the font? I'll see what I can come up with...

Look for the source for the Matrix SS for linux, I wouldn't image this would be too hard to port to BSD, who knows, some inventive sould might have already done it!

The screensaver is called iX Xirtam, i downloaded it from Apple's software pages a long time ago i think... should be bundled with a bunch of other stuff, look for the name iX.

i will say tho, you have to play with the settings for a while to get it to look right... but it looks cool!

I have a matrix screen saver... works good.. looks cool. Its for OSX. I dont know if its the same one as the one talked about in this forum or not...but if your interested.. I could send it to you. Its just a freeware screen saver.

That Matrix screen saver is slick, but I'd like to get the font as well. Watching the new trailer, it seems to be other than Roman Letters, anyone know anything about it? Is it just fabricated or is it something else?

Absolutely. Just drop True Type fonts into the Fonts folder (and generally restart whatever program you're working in). Works like a charm. :D

Here it is, it's a zip file with 2 PC true type fonts - "Miltown" & "Miltown II", they both are matrix style, and as cleo said they will work under OS X. Anyway, here it is...

Apple has the patent on true type fonts, I think. That's how come they work on Macs. I remember hearing it said that the full name is "Apple True Type Font".

Truetype was developed by both Apple and Microsoft as a way to counter Adobe's monopoly on scalable font technology (postscript).

They where not cross platform until now because while vector data was essentially the same (conforming to Truetype standard), the way they where bundled into the file was different. Mac OS classic truetype fonts need part of that data to be in the resource fork of the file, while the windows truetype fonts store everything in the data fork, since windows filesystems have no compatibility for resource forks.

Opentype, the new format which merges truetype and adobe's postscript, stores everything in the data fork, so they will also be cross platform.

Mac OS X new .dfont fonts are AFAIK Classic fonts rearranged so that they have everything in the data fork, but I they are not compatible with Windows I think. I have not tried it, though.

Just for the record, the font used for the Matrix "waterfall" screens--the screens which supposedly show Matrix code--are Japanese. Specifically, the text is in a special Japanese alphabet called katakana, a phonetic alphabet used to approximate foreign sounds.

And it's displayed backwards.

Check out the Illustrator 9 Wow! Book from Peachpit Press. On page 175 is a description of how the logo was made by Tim Girvin (Seattle lettering and "strategic branding" company) using Illustrator's tools to carve up a perfectly good setting of the word "Matrix" in Times New Roman.

It's not all Japanese, although mostly. There are some reversed English letters and numbers in there as well.

Another nice little piece of trivia: in the scene where Neo runs through the old ladies' apartment near the end of the film, the TV shown in the background shows one of the #2's from The Prisoner TV series. :D I have a newfound respect for the movie!
