from what ive heard, i think that apple employees are shunned for creating easter eggs...

though its only rumored... i heard that one emplyoee was fired for breaking this rule a while ago...

I know M$ employees are fired immidiately for hiding their name in something, even deep down in code... dunno about Apple, but it would appear that they've taken a similar stance, being as there are no easter eggs (that i know of)... Really disappointing, i enjoyed the rippling flag and all it's variants (you still find people occasionally that know what Iguana Iguana Powersurgus means hehe)... And the mountains in the About this Mac box... boring but fun all the same. Gives the OS a touch of personality, leaves it feeling less cold.

Anyone remember the Quark martian easter egg? that was so cool... ZAP!

:)

Anyone ever see the flight sim burried deep in the code of Excel 97? Man, that was classic! I can't believe they managed to hide all that code!

There aren't any Easter Eggs I know of in X. There are a few kind of funny things, but no actual Easter Eggs. It's a shame, I think Easter Eggs really add character to an app/OS.

Apple dropped em in the early OSs because often it would crash when you entered some of em and it would be cool to atleast have one is OSX

Here's kind of an Easter Egg. In OS X, hold down COMMAND+SHIFT and minimize a window by clicking on the yellow button at top left.

This is not a true Easter Egg, as it was demo'd by Apple to illustrate the effect, but nevertheless it is not well know and is a bit cool.

That's why we call it BloatWare. Not only do they throw in meaningless lines of code, there's actually government spy software, the meaning of life, ten pounds of mayo, and the history of the universe secretly encoded into various M$ crapplications. :p :p

Tokyo You only need to hold down Shift. You don't need Command as well. I love showing my PC friends that one, it's so cool!

Yup! I still show that one to some of the "more fortunate" students here at school. :D

A lot of people don't know about the 5th martian though!

So how do you get them to show up?

1. Create an object, such as a picture box.
2. Go to the Item Tool.
3. Hit Command+Option+Shift+Delete.

Keep the box sort of in the center of the screen so the martian has room to walk out to it. There is sound, so make sure your sound is turned on. On the fifth time you do those steps above, the special 5th Martian will come out and blow the little guy to tiny bits :D (in Thy mercy!)
