View Full Version : Meet up and Protest at Apple Store Boston?

The Mobileme fiasco has gotten me so upset I am thinking of going to the new Apple Store in Boston with a sandwich board sign warning people about dotmac/mobileme account service support.

Am I getting too upset? I do not know if my medical records appointments that are online are sending me another email. I do not know if my bank is sending me anything. I do not know if an ill friend in Florida (who has severe kidney trouble) is trying to contact me. I do not know if I am getting any replies to my craigslist searches for an apt.

Why?

because mobileme screwed up my email and in the process of changing things I assume I mis-keyed a password setting. No problem contact Apple's great (formerly) support team.

I have sent Apple my:

invoice number
invoice date
web order number

...and more as a way of hoping they will contact me. I have a nagging feeling anyone capable of helping me has been pulled--not-pushed from dotmac support and is now manning the barriers we heathens are rushing at.

I am seriously considering ditching Apple's mobileme/dotmac product as their support is awol.

It may be time to pull a public protest and get media attention

here is the contact form page I've used where I am being totally ignored:

does anyone know about the service here?

Wow. I had no idea anyone could be quite that stupid. OK, so maybe I did, but still. Protesting outside the Apple Store because you couldn't get your email for a day or so? BTW, unless you royally screwed something up, you could still get your mail during that time period through a mail client, such as the one on any computer in the world pretty much.

What in the world are you protesting?

does anyone know about the service here?I'm not excusing the **** up on Apple's part, but given the scale of the problems, are you actually surprised that you're being "ignored", how many people do you think they have had complain?

They've issued an apology (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=523683), you'll have to like it and lump it. Or else you can just carry on being angry and bitter, for all the good it will do you.

That is a feedback form, not a support page. As taken from the page itself:

"Use the form below to send us your comments. We read all feedback carefully, but please note that we cannot respond to the comments you submit."

So no, you weren't going to hear back from them.

You're acting like you've been cutoff from the whole world, when in reality the only issues were with the webclient (resolved for me at least) and the definition of what "push" meant.

If you're having troubles with your password or can't log on, how about you schedule yourself a genius appointment instead of picketing outside of the store?

jWI would lol too if all my info wasn't stored on their servers. I am in the process of a move across the country and most everything I have been using to facilitate that move is stored on Apple's servers.

It is more than just a little inconvenience.

do you see what I mean or are you just trolling for a petty fight?

Call me anything you want, but when a company like Apple ignores existing customers (.mac accounts) while courting new customers because of a screw up they've caused, I think they need to pay a price.

The geniuses at Apple told me they cannot help me. This was on the phone. The Apple store is not going to help me with .mac access.

I am cut off from more than email.

Do you have a Macintosh or Windows based computer?

If so go to this page: http://www.apple.com/support/mobileme/ and follow the instruction to set up mobileme on your e-mail client (be in mail.app, outlook, etc.)

This has been the one mobileme service which i haven't heard ANY problems of. You've had access to the "servers" all along.

They've messed up, they've acknowledged that, they've corrected their marketing, and are giving a month free service to subscribers. They can't turn the clock back, what's done is done, what more do you want? I understand the frustration, but really, picketing a store is just an exercise in stupidity...and getting arrested for breaching the peace (or something).

The basic principle is getting what one pays for. I cannot access most of the contacts for Apple BECAUSE they need my apple id and---gulp---the password.

I cannot get anywhere because almost all links lead back to each other on the Apple site. I've been with Apple since 2004 and have never had an issue because...I never got locked out of my account.

This is all because of the mobilme rollout. I am an existing customer of long standing with .mac. I know how it usually works. This is unacceptable.

But I have plan. I was not really asking anybody to protest with me, but I what I will do is going to be entertaining for some.

pay back is what they need. civil and legal, but pay back in some form

maybe I am not being clear enough. I cannot set anything. They all need my apple id and account password. I'll try showing a few snapshots of what happens

I didn't call you anything.

getting arrested? the Apple version of homeland security is going to be called?

I have a mac.

I cannot set my mail app client because it needs my .mac password. I tried opening a new mobileme account. My Apple account ID is needed. I set a new password by an error when on my ID page at Apple. I would not have been there if mobileme had not caused issues. I am almost positive it was a fat fingered typo...but once that was done there was no way to get back into the Apple servers.

I am locked out

Apple is NOT responding to me

Apple's contact form has my telephone number, and email contact and more. This with the story that I am locked out. What could be more simple?

...

ps, I cannot use itunes. I cannot use anything Apple that requires the apple id password.

I work just down the street from the store. Please tell me when you are doing this so I can come along and laugh.

I would be glad to.

I have an appointment nearby there today. Either today or tomorrow look for something in the area---a sign, posters, writing in plain view...

lol

you will get a laugh. this I guarantee.

I am going to look on the bright side of this.

As has been mentioned, why didn't you just reset your password? Really, I don't think what you're currently describing (and not being very clear about, btw) is Apple fault at all, but instead your fault for forgetting the password you set and/or trying to setup a new account when really all you were trying to do was keep an old one (I think).

You're overreacting. Life isn't perfect. I am pretty sure that there were lots of people at Apple with many sleepless nights working on this. Apple also apologized and extended the .me service for a month.

I support Apple during good and bad, because I know that overall they want to do good by their customers.

The truth is I admitted and take the blame for my error. What was at issue was not being able to contact Apple and get a reply. I had not tried the phone because unlike many of the braggarts and loudmouths who live on internet forums I have other things going on in my life.

The truth is Apple links to live Chat were missing when I was on their help pages.

Truth is I lost valuable information.

Truth is I have my whole life online stored on Apple servers.

Truth is Apple let me and others down.

lol civil unrest over an email service hahaha

civil unrest? how dramatic.

I did go to the Apple store in Boston after an appointment I had close by and I was ready and willing to take action against Apple by publicly protesting or more likely handing out fliers, writing street messages nearby and walking with a sandwich board sign outside their store.

All this was unnecessary as I had an Apple employee who listened to what I was saying...unlike certain braggarts here.

Isn't that what you are doing by even starting this thread? Please be sure to take pictures and post them so that those of us who do not live near you can enjoy the fun as well.

Are you serious? I was fighting to get a reply from Apple.

and the moderator here was wrong!!!

Apple did send me replies---to the account i/ was locked out of. Now if that wasn't insane, nothing is.

LOL what an ass you are! have you changed your wet panties yet ? poor baby is so upset, this is the funiest thing I have ever read.

Considering I lost about a weeks worth of replies to an apartment search, missed a hospital appointment and more, I'd say yes...I was upset, but unlike you I don't wear panties.

your post: More of the same from anonymous internet trolls/tough guys

You're overreacting. Life isn't perfect. I am pretty sure that there were lots of people at Apple with many sleepless nights working on this. Apple also apologized and extended the .me service for a month. this is what is wrong with society. we just accept others making our lives unmanageable by focusing on the poor workers for the companies that caused the issue.

The Apple employees are getting PAID to do a job. They were also paid to duisrupt things.

Why can't over paid and over fed programmers roll out a product that is thoroughly vetted and tested?

I support Apple during good and bad, because I know that overall they want to do good by their customers.Of course saying Apple let me and others down is heresy to those who make excuses.

Supporting Apple is one thing. Living in denial is quite another.

Apple messed up bad.

Second people here aren't "braggarts" they didn't want to listen because it was such a ridiculous idea.

First of all you were the one being dramatic by even suggesting a protest over an email service.

Second people here aren't "braggarts" they didn't want to listen because it was such a ridiculous idea. There you go again. See?

It was dramatic in some ways. I am in the process of moving across the country and all my contacts of the past few weeks were stored on the Apple servers I was locked out of because Apple had erred in a microsoft-type release of a product I did not subscribe to. I am a dotmac member and mobileme was forced on me. The push became a shove and the mob out there went wild.

If it weren't for the rush of people complaining to Apple about Apple's own screw up I would've been able to contact Apple to reset my access to the servers i PAY for space on.

People were already protesting.

Not being a logic board or a processor I execute/write things that may be tongue in cheek or hyperbolic. Lighten up Francis. I was not expecting a flash mob or like some brit here suggested---civil unrest. OMG!!! Such a strong term. I was warned I could get arrested. lol

\Now that was being dramatic.

Unlike what Apple's roll out of mobileme, nobody was forced to listen to my postings. Stop being so----um---dramatic.

The insults and childlike responses here were the actions of braggerts and slackers. How many people were hanging out here on company time whining about their 'push' failures?

You may not like my style, but don't assume you can fence with me and win.

Now you can take off the dunce cap and join the rest of the class

Nope. I had went to the dotmac page which redirected me to the mobileme page. On the mobileme page the links to direct contact and teh chat feature were not appearing. I assume the team at Apple was being swamped with complaints.

I only wanted them to contact me which they never did because every email I sent with contact info got a reply to the locked out accounts.

I had no way depending on when I was online, of getting in touch with anyone who could help.

I did call one Apple number and they fell over backwards apologizing that they were not allowed to rest my account. An account that was pre-existing and was unaccessible because Apple had screwed up.

When I was at the Apple store the chat feature was part of the mobilme page...the link that said Cancel. lol

So when I tried every which way and found the link missing, if I had a real hissy fit I would've wanted to cancel everything and gotten the link. As it is Apple employees went out of their way to help em with a problem created by Apple,.

how screwed up is that?

I mean here at Mac Rumors forum. I have found this crowd to be perhaps the most narcissistic self-referential group I have ever known. If they don't personally have a problem, no problem exists. Lotsa kool-aid drinking going on around here for sure.

Plus, having one's data available isn't very important if your big task of the day is heading to the skatepark.

I personally do resonate with your situation. MobileMe is buggy as hell (actually does not work at all with Outlook 2003) and some (adult) people's lives depend on getting to places on time, having phone numbers we need and getting emails in a timely manner.

Apparently not many at this forum fall into this latter category.

Good luck. I hope your problem gets fixed.

Thanks for the heads up and my problem has been addressed and fixed. I went to the Apple Store in Boston and Brad at the genius bar helped me out. We got Josh on the chat feature...so coooooooooool <<<sarcasm>>>, and he asked me the twenty-one dollar question about my password, and I told him if I knew it I wouldn't be asking for help now would I.

Brad was cool though. He went that extra mile. Now if only the crappy programmers at Apple would follow suit.

I am now experiencing other issues because I have an email only account at dotmac/mobileme along with my main account.

Change can really suck when it is to the benefit of others at your expense.

You changed your existing password, "fatfingered" the new password, "fatfingered" the re-enter new password for verification, and this is somehow Apple's fault?

Maybe's it's Apple's fault that they didn't drop everything and everyone else to give you instant support for your mistake.

Anyway, I'm glad they helped you out of a situation that you got yourself into, and then threatened to protest their deceiving ways of business. Maybe, just maybe, you shouldn't put all your eggs in one basket (.Mac/MobileMe). Crazy idea, keep a backup of all your contacts and "important" emails with you, "offline". It really helps when everything goes to hell, which sounds like what happened to you.

Also, nice way to be condesending towards everyone that's trying to help. That really makes people want to go out of their way to help you.
