I originally wanted white and got "stuck" with black. My buddy wanted black and got stuck with white... After playing around with each others the other day Im glad I got "stuck" with black. I like the white back but the whole two tone thing kills it for me. I love how sleek the all black looks with the chrome accents. Im very very very glad I got "stuck" with black.

lol.
Both are very nice. I waited for 5 hours the first day to buy a phone. I was with a girl buying it, there were two girls directly in front of me and one girl behind me (what are the odds?). Figure I'd ask their opinion.
They all said they thought the white phone was more feminine and the black phone was sleeker. At that point, I re-evaluated and bought a black phone (tainted by testosterone maybe?) and I'm glad I did. I like black a lot more. My roomy has the white phone and I'm not as much of a fan as I was while waiting in line. If the iPhone had a white back AND front, I might feel different. The black on the front with white on back looks a little off to me.
Fingerprints on the black phone don't bother me too much. I care about the fingerprints on the front, not the back. I bought a form fitted iPhone case that is made of microfiber that acts as a fingerprint remover. It will protect your iPhone's screen and back from scratches. It adds almost no thickness in your pocket. A+ product. (sorry for the advertisement, I just love my case!) http://www.sfbags.com/products/iphonesuedejacket/iphonesuedejacket.htm

I waited in line last week with the intention of buying a black 16GB, but low and behold they sold out so I bought a white instead. Truth be told I would still prefer to have a black one, but the white looks nice. I usually have it in a case so it could be pink with polka dots and no one would be able to tell. I'm married and have a baby girl on the way so I guess the white is fitting. I've pretty much lost all hope of ever regaining the manliness I once had. :D

I don't think anyone is determining a person's sexuality based on a black or white phone, but there's no denying that one color is more feminine than the other.
If a man buys a pink shirt, it doesn't mean he's gay. However, a pink shirt is more feminine than, say, a grey shirt. This instinct is completely sub-conscious.

So are those same guys "off" if they wear white shirts as opposed to black? Never once before this thread have I heard the notion that white is feminine and black is masculine. In fact, listening to people while I stood in line for three hours revealed no such consensus. Some guys were getting white while some gals were getting black and vice versa.

If we really must discuss such an absurd topic as the gender specificity of black and white iphones, it's probably useful to point out that a man that was concerned about his masculinity would never, ever buy the iphone.
Consider that while you try to explain why one colour fits men, and one colour fits women. It's mental masturbation.

You guys are comparing apples to oranges. You can't say, if a guy wears a white shirt or shoes, it means he is feminine. Phones and clothes are two separate entities. A white t shirt or a wife beater is NOT feminine by any means. But a white phone is different. All 'gadgets' should be black. White gadgets look girly, white t shirts look normal. The early gen ipods were the only ones that could get away with this because they did not come in black, and back then, ipods were the cool thing to get. Also, the black looks a lot more professional and elegant. White just looks gaudy and more like a toy. Another thing to the people saying the white iPhone is not girly, what do you say to the thousands of threads and posts being made asking if the white iPhone is girly? If THAT many guys are asking that, it must be somewhat girly for them to ask such a question. But hey don't listen to us, get whatever YOU think looks better.

I would say women like the white more because it look feminine and as for the Euros...I think they are just more stylish than us.
Also in most european countries the zippers are on the same side of their jackets as the female jackets here in the states.

The white iPhone owners need to calm down, and stop naming other electronics that are white. We're not talking about the Wii or 360. Some people feel that the white iPhone is feminine, some don't.
The fact is that I don't think anyone feels that the black iPhone is feminine, yet some feel the white one is, therefore the white one is more feminine no matter how small or large the amount of people who feel that way is.
If you're happy with your white iPhones and secure in your masculinity, why do you feel the need to so vigorously defend your colour choice?

You people are all ridiculous.
White is not inherently girly.
Black is not inherently masculine.
But when you have whatever percentage of women iPhone 3G users who opted for the white (a huge percentage), it changes the perception about the color. I got a black iPhone because it looks more professional than the white. I got a black Macbook because it looks more professional for the white. Just like it's more professional to wear a black suit to a formal meeting (excluding the fashion industry), rather than a white one.
I'm not going to make fun of anyone for getting white, but they have to understand that because of a lot of women opting for the white color, the white will be henceforth associated as feminine, and the black masculine. It's not an indictment on guy, white iPhone owners, but they do need to know there is a difference. If you don't care, good for you, get one, but don't pretend that there is no difference.
I thought the Mini Cooper was going to be an awesome car. It looks like the old one, handles great, and is very fuel efficient. When I see one on the road, it is almost exclusively driven by a woman, who probably thought that the Mini was "cute." The Mini isn't inherently a girly car, but several aspects of it happened to draw a bunch of women, making it girly. Jettas and VW bugs are similar. So is the white iPhone.
EDIT: I like both, I'm just speaking on the general perception, and why it's that way. There's no need for you white iPhone owners to get all defensive, but to think it would be, or should be any other way, is a rather inaccurate assessment of human nature.

Outside of the amusing sexual insecurity side of this thread, I honestly really like them both. I do believe that the black feels more like every other phone out there and is a smudge magnet (I would lose my mind!). The white one does not show fingerprints and I enjoy looking at it, feels like a unique piece of kit to me (as the Brits would say). On the other hand, one nice drop on the pavement and the white one will look like hell.
Once you turn either one on though, all thoughts of colors go away.

You completely missed the point of my post. We have a new black vs. white thread virtually every 5 minutes in this forum, and in most of them, white iPhone owners name off other products that came in white such as iPods, Macbooks, Wii's or Xbox 360's and say "Nobody said those were feminine!" My post was directed at them, not you, and I clarified that by calling them "white iPhone users".
I suppose if you had better reading comprehension you'd be able to understand where I'm coming from, but I digress.

The reason why I bought the white is because
1) Mostly everyone has the black.
2) When im ready to sell it the white could be rare?
3) It ships quicker with df :).
4) No smudges.
5) Matches headphones and dock.
6) All the gadgets I buy is black want something new.
Overall I don't care if its girly or what anyone's opinion is unless your refunding me my 325 dollars then sure:D

for the ppl that are against it:
"us guys who carry the white iphone, were just more man enough to carry it around then you are"
honest to god, who gives a sh&& what color our phone is, if it works it works!! if it looks good, better!
i have the black one cause white wasn't an option for me, and im loving it!!

Why are white iPhone owners getting so defensive?
I guess it must be a personality with some.
A guy with a black iPhone doesn't care, because his iPhone shows more smudges than a white iPhone, so it's dirty more often.
With a white iPhone, the guy cares more about looks, and always having a clean phone, thus bringing out the more feminine side.

You completely missed the point of my post. Impressive backpeddaling. Next time you make a point which relies on information that is in totally different threads, you may want to cite said threads. Otherwise, contextually, you have failed.
So now, let's move further with this logic. If indeed you were not referring to me (I'll give you the benefit of the doubt), how is a comparison of a black 360 vs a white 360 irrelevant to the comparison of a white iPhone to a black iPhone?
And, why does my ownership of a black iPhone preclude me from making such comparisons and exploring the absurd logic behind them?
It's one thing if you don't like having asinine and illogical conversations. I'm right there with you. However, it should be obvious that I'm trying to make a logical and meaningful conversation.
And trust me, reading comprehension is my strong suit. I meant the initial comment in jest, but I suppose I could have added some context ;)

My eyes have been opened!
This topic is seriously ridiculous, Apple has been putting out White products for years, and now suddenly a white iPhone is girly?
Everyone needs to calm the hell down, it's a phone, it comes in 2 "colors", black and white. Black is usually seen as more professional and will show smudges easier, white is seen as less professional by some and won't show smudges as easily.
Beyond that, it's all personal preference, gender or masculinity have nothing to do with it. If you won't buy a white product because you don't want to be seen as girly, you should assess your life outlook, because you have issues.
Buy whichever you like more, I personally have a 8gig black, had they offered white in 8gigs, I'd have that. Why? Because Apple has been putting out white computers for a long time, it's sort of iconic for them, and it looks cool.

it's funny, at first I thought I was definitely going to get the white one (not as a matter of masculinity or anything obviously lol), and then when I got to the Rogers store and had a look at it, I found the black one just looked a lot better. It matched with the front of the phone in a way that the white one did not. I wonder if Apple will ever change the black on the front of the phone to match the white on that version. Anyways I ended up with the black one and I love it... I haven't found it as bad as people say for fingerprints, but maybe thats because I'm looking at the front!

I'm a guy that much prefers the looks of the two-tone white over all black. I like the contrast between the screen and the back, I like how the reflections in the plastic aren't as significant, and I think the white just looks nicer over all: a fresher, more nordic design. Also, with the white there are visible values of grey that extenuate the curves of the back. I'm pretty sure the iPhone's going to be sitting in a Vaja case most of the time anyway but I still like the idea of having white over black.

Looks like we have a new ingredient for massive thread failure: Ongoing pre-pubescent arguments that white iPhones are inherently feminine. Let's see if we can make sense of this with a brief argument summary...
In the absence of another color choice, white is OK. (e.g. Original iPod, Wii, etc.)
In the presence of another color choice, white may still be OK if it suits the person making the argument. (e.g. Clothing, shoes, etc.)
In the presence of another color choice, namely black, white is feminine. (e.g. iPhone 3G)
CONCLUSION: If iPhone 3Gs came only in white, they'd be gender neutral. But since they come in a choice of black or white, they are gender specific.
Yep! That makes about as much sense as milking a bull. Do owners of black Macbooks make this same, silly argument?

You can't really compare personal hygiene to a phone. You aren't taking a shower every 2 minutes. You aren't changing your clothes every 2 seconds. If you don't like a smudge phone, changes are you'll wipe it every 2 seconds.

Read my post please.
Will do.
You people are all ridiculous.
White is not inherently girly.
Black is not inherently masculine.
Clearly I agree here.
But when you have whatever percentage of women iPhone 3G users who opted for the white (a huge percentage), it changes the perception about the color.
A huge percentage is relative and certainly not an empirical observation. The perception about the colour is created by A) lack of a greater colour choice, B) An interesting need for some Males and Females to separate themselves and C) a popularly held (but irrational) view that white is somehow feminine. That said, it does NOT change my perception about the colour. To make a comparison, many have the perception that Macs are simply overpriced when compared to PCs. Is this a necessarily correct assumption simply because it is held by more people than not? of course not! Tyranny of the majority at its finest (albeit in a less political context :D)
I got a black iPhone because it looks more professional than the white. I got a black Macbook because it looks more professional for the white. Just like it's more professional to wear a black suit to a formal meeting (excluding the fashion industry), rather than a white one.
I bought a MBP because it is more capable than the macbooks. If I were to buy a blackbook, it would be because of its processing advantage rather than the color itself. I've rocked white suits to business meetings before. The last thing I hear is that I look feminine or unprofessional.
I completely disagree. It's people that share this attitude which create the erroneous popularly held belief that white is somehow inherently feminine. Did you ever consider that girls may be buying it because they want to be different? Do you know many girls that want to wear the same shoes or clothes as other girls? It has nothing to do with femininity and everything to do with a desire to be unique and stand out. That in its own right, is not specific to gender (see non-standard logic)
Now you're completely off base. As a statistician I am appalled by your ignorance to a proper sample size. What you see on the road at specific times in your specific area is NOT representative of an overall sample. The fact that women may like the car does not make it girly. Sorry. Girls LOVE my Mustang. Does that make it girly? Hell no. Oh and it's black. They also like my white Audi. The logic fails once again.
Oh and my girlfriend drives a VW GTI with a VR6 swap. I love driving it. Do I feel like a girl in it? No...why the hell would I? The logic simply isn't there. It may also surprise you to know that I'm part of a VW club (www.generationdub.com) and most of the people that drive Jettas are...*gasp*...guys!

how is a comparison of a black 360 vs a white 360 irrelevant to the comparison of a white iPhone to a black iPhone?
It’s irrelevant because they’re two completely different products made for two completely different purposes, used in completely different places, in completely different ways. It’s not an apples to apples comparison (pun intended). I never said white is a feminine colour. White happens to be my favorite colour for cars, and I don’t think it’s feminine in the least, but that’s completely irrelevant when discussing a specific model of cell phone.
And, why does my ownership of a black iPhone preclude me from making such comparisons and exploring the absurd logic behind them?
It doesn’t, it’s just my initial comment, as I clearly stated, was directed toward the vast majority of people who are getting all up in arms about the feminine allegations; owners of white iPhones.

So, "feminine males" isn't hinting at gay?
Something that is less masculine, doesn't mean gay. You're missing the point. In our society, playing football is more masculine than walking around with a black or white iPhone. That doesn't mean an iPhone user is gay. This is a retarded argument to begin with. To that, I say, everyone enjoy their phones. This thread is childish. The homophobia in society today is quite comical.

If it is as you claim, completely irrelevant, let me ask you this: What is it about a cellphone that makes white a feminine colour when compared to black, even though this holds true for nothing else which could even be remotely compared?
Is it possible it has nothing to do with the actual color and everything to do with a lack of a greater color choice and a desire for females to be unique?

We don't know, but the fact that a huge majority of women buy the white iPhone as opposed to the black makes it so, at least superficially. It's not inherently feminine, but sometimes the mere use of something by lots of women confers feminimity upon something.
Is it possible it has nothing to do with the actual color and everything to do with a lack of a greater color choice and a desire for females to be unique?
And in that desire to be unique, to be completely stereotypical and predictable (same goes for guys and black)? If you'd like to delve into what causes male children to play with trucks and little girls to play with dolls, please go ahead. It's a debate that's been raging on for ages, with a multitude of explanations stemming from DNA differences to simply what toy is thrust in their hand as a child.
Now until those can be answered, why is it so hard to believe that society, either rightfully or wrongly, confers feminimity to an object that is coveted and bought by a largely female audience? It doesn't make that object any less valuable to a man, but it would be ignorant to ignore the difference.

But in all honesty, I don't think I've seen one guy with a white phone (NYC area). Maybe out in California or something it's different, but guys use black phones here. Black phones, gray cars, etc. Besides all of the obvious reasons, you're far less likely to dirty up a black phone than a white one. I don't own a white Mac. I own two silver ones. I wouldn't touch the older iMacs with a ten-foot pole (outside the fact that I thought the plastic "chin" was ugly, the crapptastic integrated video always turned me off on a $2000 machine).
However, it's hard to argue with the facts:
* The iPhone 3G is nearly sold out at stores.
* Of the ones that aren't sold out, most stores are only carrying the white one.
* From looking at various lines on the news, at my local store and just with my own experience waiting for things like the PS3, most of the folks who are early adopters are guys.

That doesn't mean a guy shouldn't buy it and be happy, but it's more feminine just because of the fact that most women who have an iPhone 3G get the white one. More women buying the white one has NO, read it, NO bearing on whether the phone itself is feminine. That's merely a sales trend.
More fashionable? Maybe. More Trendy? Likely. In line with Apple color choices over the past, oh 10 years? Totally.
Now if one came in pastel pink and the other looked like a bullet, we'd have something to discuss, but sadly, one is white and one is black.
Anyone that says any guy buying a white one must be a fruit cake is seriously sheltered and ignorant.

White is for girls and metrosexuals.....Black is manly.
I'm gay and have a white one. Don't judge. :p
I love the white one. After standing in line for 8.5 hours for the phone, I thought I was going to walk out with a black one. After seeing the white one, there was no looking back.

See this only proves that white is stylish, not feminine.
Women, metro's, and gays ALL have much better fashion sense than straight guys. Everybody knows this...

Just think about it this way...White phones attract more girls and black phones attract more geeky dudes...which would you rather attract?

*Shrug* So be it. I see from your signature a possible reason for your opinion.
But in all honesty, I don't think I've seen one guy with a white phone (NYC area). Maybe out in California or something it's different, but guys use black phones here. Black phones, gray cars, etc. Besides all of the obvious reasons, you're far less likely to dirty up a black phone than a white one. It's as much about utility and practicality as a supposed "fashion choice". Not to mention, some people are going to be complaining about yellow phones in a month or two.
I'm a guy, I live in NYC, and I have a white iphone...
I just needed a change, everything I'm used to buying was black...black car, black phone for the last 4 years, black laptop, black PC, black TV...just about every gadget I've bought except for my 360 was black...I just needed a change, and I do think the White iphone is nicer than black...just an opinion though...

This thread is a riot.
I'm a male from Maine and I bought white. I was going to go with the black and the only reason I didn't was because in person I was struck by how much better it looked in person then online.
Everybody I know has black or grey phones and I thought it'd be fun to have something a little different and literally everyone who has seen it loves it and comments on how "classic Apple" it is.
Straight / Gay ? um, clearly I need to find out from my iPhone...lol; for me, I'm still crawling into bed with my girlfriend :D

white bit@#$!!!
The black ones look like on of those grease pads girls use on their face after using nah holding it for like an hour.
My brother wished he had a white one like mine after the first day.
The white is kind of dull but no smudges. And its different. Who else has a bone white phone? Not many people. Besides it looks sexy in a black leather case.

considering there are waaaay more black owners because of the 8gb.... WHITE is the way to go. Its more limited. Owning a white iphone is like joining an exclusive club!

Well apparently, according to the logic of some people on this forum, based on the fact that more people are voting for the white iPhone: This is absolute proof that the majority of MacRumors users are either 1) female or 2) homosexual.

I think the white looks great but every girl in line here for an iPhone bought white.
Ask yourself: "What would a ninja choose"?
Depends which ninja...Stormshadow (http://www.latinoreview.com/news/holy-s-it-storm-shadow-looks-totally-badass-4591) would pick white. :)

I actually bought both colors, and to continue with the main argument in this thread, I have black and my wife has white. I thought the white was a bit to girly. My wife actually liked black better but once looking at the white for a bit she went with that since it'll be easier to tell our phones apart. The white does look nice and clean though, I just didn't want to carry around a screamin' white phone. The black is a fingerprint magnet but it's now wrapped in invisible skin so it's not a problem.
Of course, hers in now in a Griffin Elan Form case so you only see a bit of white on the top and bottom anyway.

Another thing the salesman said to me when I was buying the white is that some people were buying it because then everyone knows that you have a 16GB; with a black, it could be either HD size. Not sure why that matters to people, but more power to them I guess.

In all honesty that was my original reasoning for getting the white one.

Well first of all, you might want to get your references right. It is Sex AND the City, not Sex in the City.
Also, if you have seen the movie, Carrie has no idea how to use the iPhone
