..thanks for help with:

ibook ---tibook connected via ethernet (crossover cable)
network panel adjusted to built-in ethernet - and dhcp.
also apple talk enabled..also filesharing enabled
then in finder: connect to... then the other computer is recognized
but when logging in as a guest it takes a long time until
then the message: authentication failed appears.

i checked the online manual and could not find out why
the authentication failed. did i overlook something.

h\thanks

hmm...

when it takes a while.. that almost always means its not gonna work.. but anyways

probably your problem is that you havent created a guest acount. you must create a guest account on the other computer, and give it appropriate priveleges

also, you can just login as the user currently logged in on the computer you are trying to access -- just use the same username and password as you do to log onto that computer when you are sitting in front of it.

...but i think a guest-account is not necessary to create
if logged in as a guest (in login there are two options)...i think you don't need a password for one of those...
but you will only have access to the public folder/drop box.

seems to be a recurrent problem in osx. Even the technicians at the local tech-source store run into the same problem. we're still waiting for a fix
