View Full Version : Wow. I'm hated at my local Apple Store.

So often I will go into the Apple store and put the iPod Classics and iPod Nanos in either hard disk mode or diagnostic mode.
I've done it many times in the past.
It really confuses people.
I hadn't been caught until today.
This time I got to do it to over half of them until I got caught.
They didn't really yell at me or even kick me out.
The manager just told me to put all of them back to normal.
After words I ended up talking to like 5 of the employees in a nice manner.
They ended up really liking me and we talked for like half an hour about the September releases.
Of course a few of them still ended up hating me. :p

Would you like a medal?
Would you like someone to randomly go around your house turning stuff upside down without you looking?

In terms of pointlessness.
That's right up there with changing links on the laptops to YouTube.
I'm surprised they didn't bar you from the place. I would.

My Apple store "prank" is going to be me taking my remote with me, and pushing play so all of the Macs in range will go to sleep. I have a feeling it'll be awesome. :D

I didn't expect them to enjoy it, but I also didn't expect to be caught.
They could have been a lot madder.
There were like 4 in the end that didn't hate me and they ended up laughing with me about it.
Then as I said before... we started talking about other Apple stuff, how dell sucks, September updates, etc, etc.
Would you like a medal?
A medal would be pretty nice.

OMG!
That's awesmome!
Nice idea.
You should do it to some of the iPods too, just like... if someone is listening to one, press pause or turn the volume all the way up.

Er.... wont you have to pair your remote with the Macs first?
What if pairing has been disabled in all of them!

Ummm... if I was special I wouldn't even know how to do that.
And I wouldn't have 10103 songs on my iPod.
Well I normally talk to them often about stuff anyways.

The only road block would be if they have in Sys Prefs disable infrared receiving checked, and then only the paired remote will work. But this isn't checked by default so it should work. And if it is then hopefully they don't have Sys Prefs password protected haha. :p

I posted this because my experience with Apple Store has it that the option is 'checked'. But, never once have I found the Security option locked......
Also, wont it be tough because infrared requires direct visibility with the receiver and How many Macs does your local Apple store places in a single line all pointing towards you?

Oh, I thought you were being mean. XD
Well if I was "special" I wouldn't really have the ability to download all of them.
And I was joking when I said that I wouldn't be "special" if I had 10103 songs.

Then if it it gets mixed up because of all the Macs, he'll end up putting all of them to sleep at once.

I only have 509 songs :(.
Either way, I think the OP was just trying to show off for the Apple folks, in the hopes they'd offer him a job, or give him a discount, or ask his advice.
Jk, but that's always been a dream of mine. Impress them, and get a good job.

Jeez.
That's horrible.
Did you read the first comment saying that they should get the numbers from the iPhones and call them?
I've done that too, on numerous occasions.
Well one of my friends was on one of the iMacs before and she went to some porn sites.
She did like 5 taps with porn, left them open, then walked away.

That's worked!
One time I was talking to them and telling them how I have to use my mom's older iPod headphones (the ones that came with the first gen shuffle) and how the current ones broke.
They said I should be using the current ones and gave me a free pair of $30 headphones!
I wasn't even asked to prove to them that my current ones broke.
And I wasn't trying to get a job. XD
I just turned 16.
You have to be 18.
And if I was 18 I would be able to get one there very easily.
Sorry, I didn't see the jk part.

The police can't do anything to me for putting iPods in diagnostic or hard disc mode.
I would just leave on my own if they told me to.
If I didn't, then that would mean I was looking for trouble when I was just playing a joke.

Yepp.
I bet a lot of you guys thought I was around 10 or 11.
If I was they would ask me where my mom was.
She wasn't with me but if she was and they asked me then she would be really confused on why I was in trouble.
She'd be all "hard disc? Diagnostic mode? What?"

lol keep thinking that. if the store deems you a nuisance, they can ban you and threaten you with trespassing...

Well that's as far as they could go if they did.
Unless I did get banned but went there anyways.
Like I said earlier, this could've been a whole lot worse.
I think one of the reasons why I got go was because it wasn't crowded at all, I did it to iPods right next to each other instead of every other iPod, and I didn't switch off and start pretending to look at the Macs like normally do.

If not he needs to stop lying.

I hope you and the Rick Rolling/You Tube guy™ don't ever show up at the same store at the same time... unless your mothers ARE with you
It isn't funny, it isn't cool, it isn't a righteous prank, dude
It is annoying, boorish, immature and disappointing
And trying to defend your behavior makes you look foolish

The best thing to play around with at Apple stores is the remote desktop.
Shutting down computers, opening up photobooth on people unaware or turning music on as staff are near a computer then turning it off as they approach it. Never gets boring :)

And you thought causing unnecessary problems for others would make you popular? Ask yourself why you're doing things like this. If you really need attention that much, look for more positive ways to get it.
