Backed out of the driveway(which is oddly angled), and hit them in there door while they were re roofing my neighbors house(directly across the street)..


they took the car to a "friends" to get it quoted and they said 1300... this car is not new. it is an older model late 90's chevy 2 door. My dad did the same thing last year and it was into her(the same neighbors) son's BRAND new truck, literally. and it was only 2k, and it was on the door hinge.

I think there quote is more then a quote if you know what I mean.. I think the car owner has an agreement with there "friend" the mechanic.

My point is... what should be done.

I need clarification as to what happened. Your story didn't make too much sense to me.

Ask for the written quote and take some pictures ... all sides of the damaged area.

If it is just a door, door outside, hinge area, latch, inside, underneath the door, door sill, etc. Close ups on attachment points to eliminate claims of damage there later. (all this is for possible court case later.)

At least with the written quote and the pictures you should be able to take it to another body shop and check the estimate.

Heck, if it is just the door ... more than likely you might be able to find a replacement door in good shape and just pay for the cost of install.

Sometimes replacing the entire door is a lot easier and quicker than reskinning a door and painting it.

I just looked at the photo. Reminds me of the time when I saw a drunk driver reversing his car out of the parking lot.. and hitting the car on the opposite side.

Clearly your mom wasn't looking.. 'not enough room' has nothing to do with hitting someone. You can't hit someone in the back, if you're not looking in the first place. Good luck with your insurance supporting your claim..

You're in the wrong. Just take it to another place of your choosing to get a second quote and take the best one. Where someone was born shouldn't come into the matter at all.

Your post makes it *sound* like it was *their* fault that your mom crashed into them. I'm in LA, so yes, I know what you are talking about - but I've had a 'citizen' crash into me .. and he had no insurance.. but the damage was negligible so we just took off amicably.

I'm sorry, but, whether they were illegal aliens, or permanent residents, or citizens or not, they were doing what they were supposed to be doing (fixing the roof of the neighbor's house).. your mom drove up to *them* and crashed into them. It's not like they ran up to your car and lay down.

The person doing the driving is at fault. Yes, you say she looked - you probably say that because she told you that, and you're biased that she's your mom.. and even more biased because they are illegal aliens.
