I don't think anybody really knows what happened yet, or how it all started. News reports so far, at least the ones I've read, seem confused and ambiguous as to what actually triggered the war.

What I find interesting is that few have, as yet, criticized Russia for its disproportionate response against civilian targets in Georgia, while the criticism would have been voracious had it been the United States, or even Israel, doing the attacking.
