It's Textish, the new language teens speak because their English teachers don't scan their phones and beat them to death for thinking such chatter is legible.
If you can't type legible crap, use the phone to call someone! Um, K? Do U C?

After much deciphering I have come to know that the original post was written in some alternative of the English language. After some deliberation of the phrases in question I have been led to believe that party member 2, "the girl," has either been gifted with an iPhone rip off, is lying, or—and this seems very reasonable considering the writing style—is simply dumb.

Yeah, this is why I have received actual resumes (CVs for you overseas people) that were hardly legible from some people. Sometimes they become so involved in txt-speak that real words cease to exist in their vocabulary.

Reading that conversation killed several of my brain cells....
People need to relearn grammar.
I don't mind abbreviations like txt, ppl, lol, and all other ones
but "her(9:49:44 PM): u gotta iphone 2 awesome !!!!!" <== this is just stupid and illiterate.

Funny, but I could easily understand the OPs post.
The funniest language that I have ever heard spoken was between two native Hawaiians. One was my boss, and the other a mutual friend. They broke into local speak. Funny as hell. It was a mixture of Japanese, English, Portuguese, Spanish, and native Hawaiian so I could understand a word or two there. Then the got down and went slang. Awesome.

Age is completely irrelevant. It's really about common decency and the desire to be an earnest member of society. I don't doubt that there will be people in their 40s conducting speech like that; just haven't witnessed it yet.

Post of the century!!! I'm 14 and I have no clue what that guy is saying. Since I got an iPhone, I've no longer used "text speak" for my text messages. When I do go on AIM, which is probably once every three weeks, I usually type normally and only use simple things like LOL or LMAO or OMG. I definitely think that the English language is a valuable tool and being able to use it well is necessary if you want to be a successful person. Even I think that American teens and preteens are critically underdeveloped in terms of proper grammar, speech, and writing while at the same time being consumed by television and other distractions that take away from what they should be studying and learning.

Of course! I certainly do. Before I had one of these iPhones it would take me quite long to write a text message on my Sony Ericsson as I would regularly be proofreading and choosing correct punctuation from submenus within menus. It's like people that skimp on signaling lane changes and turn-ins while driving. You either always do it, regardless of whether or not anyone is watching, or you begin to get used to not doing it. Eventually, this type of speaking will heavily influence speech everywhere. Hell, it already does. It's all about overall attention to detail that you put into your life. Everyone's quick to criticize Apple's quality, you should consider the quality of all of your own activities too.

I know that, but I was just pointing out what I have experienced in my own life. Obviously, I can't speak for what's happening in the rest of the world, but I'm sure in most places it isn't happening at a rate that's as extreme or widespread as in the US. The fact that the rest of the world learns English as a second language spoils American kids and teens by making English seem like something that isn't as important to perfect because they have learned it at a young age.

You sound like you know nothing about the rest of the world and you're basing your opinion off of the American stereotype of an American through a European's eyes. How could you know that the loss of language is more widespread in the US than the rest of the world? Did you know in many places the American stereotype isn't a fat idiot, but a hot (still dumb) super model, or pretty valley girl?

What would you teach American children before they learn english?
I wasn't suggesting that. Because people in other countries learn English in addition to their native language, people who are born into an English speaking country do not feel the need to study other languages or even perfect their own. English is one of the hardest languages to learn from the perspective of a foreigner, so someone who learns English as a first language and doesn't put in the effort to fully understand it knows more of the language and its complexities than someone who learns it as a second language.

I understand that not everyone is a stereotype. I do live in Southern California, so I see a lot of the stereotypes in action. I'm not saying that everyone is like that. Everyone is different. Most of the people that I am friends with aren't like that, but the majority does fit into some kind of stereotype, not just the ones that you stated. They wouldn't have created the different stereotypes if there wasn't some truth to them. I'm sorry if I sound like some kind of outsider, but I'm not. Can you honestly say that you can state an opinion about say, fourteen-year-old boys, without basing it on some kind of stereotype? Clearly, /points to self/ not everyone fits into a stereotype.

I see no excuse for not typing in full sentences, even when using messenger. I understand the need for text language when writing text messages, since it makes things shorter and to the point, but there's no excuse when you've got a full keyboard in front of you.

I do take offense to that as now you're categorizing everyone in the age group with one opinion; obviously flawed thinking. Again, it's not as much about age as you think and I don't doubt some older people will be conversing the same way eventually.
