Heres a wild one for ya...
Is it possible to set up a login screen that lets you create profiles with different operating systems?
For instance have this:
Bob - (Admin) boots up in OSX
Jack - (User) boots up in OSX
Fred - (Admin) boots up in OX9
Sue - (User) boots up in OX9
I know it sounds impossible to me too... but i fig' that anything is possible...
Applescripts in the system folder maybe?
Thanks

would you create this after booting up into x (or 9), or like a pre-loader?
you could create a startup script for a certain user (in X), so when you log in as that user, itll change the default startup folder to 9, then reboot for you..
thats pretty simple to do... you could also do the same for os 9 and have it boot to X for you, but this would probably be a waste of your time...
you could always just create two partitions and then press the "option" key every time you boot up so you can access partitions..
but basically there isnt a solution that isnt super simple, and that wouldnt waste you time...

Thanks for replying
Is it really possible to make that script user specific?
From what you said it sounds like what I want to is make the computer automatically boot up in OSX everytime.
Then Have a dialog box of users (for instance)
User 1: Chris (script is not activated... functions normally)
User 2: Guest (script is not activated... functions normally)
User 3: Theater (Script is activated... changes startup disk to OS9... restarts... launches an application called BTV... changes startup disk back to OSX)
I would probably have to set up multiple users in OS9 too, right?
The CPU is used as both a workstation and the basis of a home theater system and sits in the center of a large loft... however the programs for the theater isn't on OSX yet... forcing me to boot up in 9 a few times a day... change startup disks around and restart.. change back.. Its not as much me but I don't want guests and other people changing around my settings.. ya know what i mean?
I want to make it idiot proof to launch the theater... unfortunatly I don't know applescript at all.. where would I find a resource to fig' this out
Thanks. You 'da man!

well.. i myself know how to..
i can get back to you tomorrow and create some scripts, if you want, but you can mess a round a bit yourself with it -- try out the "Record" feature - it allows you to record actions you do. it may not record all the actions you want it to, which is why you have to know the actual language.
have fun! ill post again here sometime tomorrow to see what i have done...
glad to be of help
