If I had created a thread that said "America does not have the most liberty in the world" would that have been acceptable?

No. You've created a thread without any links to credible evidence. It's just an opinion that you threw out to inflame, as is obvious by this last post of yours. Wasteland, please. We won't allow this forum to become Limbaughed or Frankened.

If your initial post in that thread was as unsubstantial as in this thread, then I would have just as much a problem with it.

If I had created a thread that said "America does not have the most liberty in the world" would that have been acceptable? Who knows? mkrishnan's a mod though and was probably trying to point out that flag waving threads often end up with a lot of people taking sides with out much real debate. Honestly your original post did seem to imply (at least to me) that you were stating 'facts' rather than opinion and were not interested in having those viewpoints challenged or examined.

I agree, pointless...if you're going to do this right, a better start would be "America has the most liberty in the world because..." and then provide evidence or examples..
Then we can talk about it.
You forgot maple syrup. You call yourself a Canadian?
And Hockey. And avoiding the draft, if you're an American expat. :D

Actually it was intended as neither. It was intended to creat several different paths for the thread to develop through.
Although, it seems to have become a thread about what is an acceptable topic in Politics Religion and Social Issues.

I can't see the pro's of having a gun. All it does is make gun deaths in America about 20,000, in contrast to about 100 in Europe and Canada.
Free speech? Yes certainly, as long as your views are pro-America.
Economic? Well thats about to go down the crapper.
Educational choice? Many millions would disagree.
Also you conveniently forgot healthcare.
OP, before you respond this is not a bash on America, its a bash on you.

1 Have you any evidence to back up any of your bland assertions?
2 In what way is educational choice greater than in other countries?
3 Do you know anything about educational choice in other countries?
4 Do you know anything about freedom of speech in other countries?
5 How do you define "economic liberty"?
6 Are you on drugs?

No- it has NOT. Do you have a reading comprehension problem? Go back and read what has been stated here by me and several others. Read it until you understand it. Hmm... maybe I should just say it again:
You may post about anything you like. But you need to explain your position and provide some evidence.
Get it yet?

Refer to my new thread about the pros of guns.
Actually free speech does not just apply to pro American statements. An arguement in support of American free speech would be the inordinant amount of libel law suits in commonwealth countries.
Why would people say that there is no educational choice
Healthcare is not a right. It is a service that you pay for.

Did someone invent a free speechometer or something. You take this nifty contraption to various countries and it measures the level of free speech.
How do you define that free speech is higher in America than any other country.
Educational choice? How exactly? You have to pay to go to college. In many countries (Scotland for example) tuition fees are paid for by taxes. Which is totally unfair may I add. Scotland are ruled by the same government as us yet I have to pay. *Shakes fist to the North at those pesky Scots* :p

Leek, You need a link for those things? You do live in the US don't you?
I'm not sure how a thread bout american liberty would "inflame" but okay.
In contrast here (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/othersports/olympics/2602512/Beijing-Olympics-British-woman-jailed-by-China-over-Tibet-protest.html) is a link to a story about a british woman who has been jailed in China for protesting.

I support all free speech.
Then at least I can't fault you for being inconsistent on that one...
We've had many members here use that as an attack on the ACLU and then cry bloody murder when some of their more insulting posts would happen to get deleted crying about censorship on the privately owned forum. Just had to ask to make sure you were a true free speech advocate rather than one of the "free as long as I don't find it too repulsive" crowd.
carry on...

Aside from the fact that YOU'RE the one making the claims thus the burden of proof is on YOU to support those claims, and not on us to try to debunk your bases claims, I'll still give you some clear evidence against your claims.
- Guns: this one seems true, we do have some of the most liberal gun laws in the western world (which is a good thing imo, but those freedoms seem to be receding)
- Speech: "Patriot Act" (http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en-us&q=%22patriot+act%22+%22free+speech%22&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8)
- Economic: farm subsidies (http://www.google.com/search?num=100&hl=en&client=safari&rls=en-us&q=%22farm+subsidies%22&btnG=Search)
- Educational choice: For whom? The poor and even now more and more of the middle class can only afford to go to their one local public school or a religious school, and that's it.

Gun rights do seem to be receding thanks to fear mongering over guns but we still have a lot of freedom here. You have a point about farm subsidies but most other developed countries have far more. Most of the patriot act expired. Yes that is the educational freedom I am talking about.

As stated above, the problem with this thread is that it's just trolling. If you want to make a reasoned argument, even without good evidence, that's fine. Please start over and make a new thread that actually makes an argument or share some information or does anything productive...
