High end cars for younger people. Such as bmw 7, and 6(06, 07). Mercedes CLS, S, and SL(06, 07, 08). Maserati Quattroporte(2006 so older model I guess).
If I was paying for it my self, dont ask how, but IF I was. What would you guys think? I am currently 17, and this would not even happen till I was 18-19 maybe even 20.
What do you guys think?
I do not want to be heckled, just would like a public opinion. :o

If you can afford it, why not? Personally, I think there are better things to put money to, but everyone has their own priorities.

I'd think a number of things if saw someone your age putzing around in Maserati, and none of them would be nice.
If you're just jonesing to buy a car, buy something decent that'll get you from point A to point B and put the rest of that money away. There will be plenty of time to buy unnecessarily nice cars...your late teens and early 20s isn't the time, IMO.

I already would have... ENOUGH. saved. away. decently returning.
It was just a though of my opportunity. I actually TURLY shocked my dad last night when I said I wanted a honda accord, CNG. CNG would have been the only reason. I am in a CNG ETFund. :p

That was just supposed to be funny. When I see really young people driving $100,000+ cars, I tend to think to assume they're spoiled little brats and a car like that isn't something they deserve (however unfair or wrong that knee-jerk reaction may be).

I don't know what you did to earn enough money at 20 to buy yourself a Maserati, but it's your money, you spend it how you like. Every car you listed above is very nice and would be a very outward display of your wealth. If you're OK with that, then I'm OK with that.

If you can afford it and don't care to be thrifty for the sake of the future then there's no reason why you shouldn't get one just because of your age. I do hope you earned the money yourself though and the car would be a reward of your achievements. I, on the other hand, question whether or not it would ever really be worth getting such a car regardless of my income/age/experience.

I would keep in mind that you will want to have a very decent place to store a nice car like what you've mentioned. Having a Mazerati parked in your apartment complex is kinda lame I gotta say. I say stick with something that isn't so flamboyant (think bmw 3, or InfiniD G). Just cause you can doesn't mean its right for you. Parking big cars is a pain, and if you have friends who aren't so respectful of expensive things then dumb things can happen. You don't want to baby sit your friends that ride in this car do you.

Ah well, my little Peugeot 306 does me fine at the moment. :)
Back on topic, I'm also shocked that you want a Honda Accord. Lovely car, but unbelievable overkill for a 17 year old. From a practical point of view, it would do many things:
Draw attention to yourself from the wrong kind of people. Potential thieves would know you're wealthy
As mentioned before in the thread, people would see you driving it and think negative things. Sad fact but true.
Would probably result in you being pulled over by the police rather a lot. 17 year old driving a car that costs upwards of £19k new? Possible stolen car.
Actually, trying to get insurance for someone your age on a car like that would cost rather a hefty sum. Have you taken that into consideration?

I agree, and well-phrased.
That was just supposed to be funny. When I see really young people driving $100,000+ cars, I tend to think to assume they're spoiled little brats and a car like that isn't something they deserve (however unfair or wrong that knee-jerk reaction may be).
Again, that is true; erroneous perception perhaps, but still true. Most young people who drive a flash set of wheels tend to have been subsidised by fairly well-heeled parents. If you have earned it, well and good, but the perception will be otherwise.
Again, I have to agree. Many people treat themselves to a "dream car" at some stage in their lives, and then move on, having sampled the dream. Cheers

I wouldn't. I would start off with a small car with a smaller engine. Just because you have the money does not mean you have to spend it.
Getting a smaller engined car will stop you speeding/ showing off to your friends and possibly killing yourself. I know someone who has a Hyundai Coupé who just lost control accelerating and ended up totalling it.

The OP asked what people thought of this. At this stage, the OP might have some idea of what people think.
Djellison summarised it well. You wouldn't look big or clever. Those who don't know you would assume you were a spoiled youngster permanently funded by your parents. Even knowing the truth, which is that you seem to be independently wealthy, those who are not equally well off would not be much impressed, thinking that you would be a rich kid showing off.
Why do you feel the need for such a visible display of power? Such a display of status symbols? To flaunt it, or feel good? Others watching would be irked, envious, annoyed, contemptuous or downright resentful. Is that what you want? I suppose there is a sense in which this is not earned and that therefore to flaunt it is not appropriate.
I know some strange threads materialise on this forum (some very strange threads in truth), but it is/was originally a technological/computer forum. Why ask such a community to applaud an immature, and possibly reckless display of wealth?

Some rich idiots are old, some are young.
There's a reason insurance costs more for young people - you crash more.
Either buy yourself an expensive shiny coffin, or be clever and learn to drive in a proper car before splashing out. Passing a driving test does NOT for a minute mean you know everything about driving.
I've been driving for a decade now, and I've realised that it took me a far longer time to become a good driver than it took for me to pass my tests. Anyone with much brain should agree with that. I've had my fair share of cars, both big and small, slow and fast. And I wouldn't recommend for a minute that someone under 25 even think about anything on the OPs list.
Until you've got a good few years experience under your belt, buying cars like that is just insanity.

Fair enough. It is a community thread, point taken.
We are on high priced computers, yes, certainly, but most of the people here use their computers for work, or, in some sense, they are used professionally. For my part, I certainly use my MBP professionally; it is a tool - a vital tool for my work - as a teacher, editor, and writer, and thus, personally and professionally, I wish to have the best materials to hand. Hence Apple.
Besides, while design is part of the premium product reputation of Apple, I'd argue that in strict financial terms, a Ferrari is of rather a different order of expense than is even the most expensive computer. And I'd dispute the "most of us". Plenty of posts here come from students, some asking about discounts, others juggling costs so that they afford some combination of hardware/software. Many others have posted about working in positions which are not especially remunerative, are on insecure contracts, etc. Given what the OP has posted to date, I'm not sure that "most of us" live in quite the same world as the OP.
Cheers

While I agree with most on here that spending that kind of money at your age, or any age for that matter is crazy, in my opinion.
What do you plan on driving until you reach the ripe old age of 20 when you predict you will be purchasing such a vehicle? At 17, someone with your kind of coin must have a vehicle already? Really, what is stopping you from purchasing the vehicle now? Does the trust fund not become available until your 20th birthday?
Really, my biggest concern is why does anyone post such questions on a forum. Who's approval are you seeking? Why does it matter what anyone else thinks as long as you are happy?

There are some things you should consider before making any big dollar purchase, not just a car. You should consider, obviously, if you have the money. You have stated a few times in the thread that you have plenty of money, so that's step one complete. Next, you should consider the return on your investment. Honestly, a car is probably the worst thing you can invest in. A car loses value every day as you put more miles on it. In addition, there are maintenance and fuel costs that further make the purchase a bad one from an investment standpoint.
Also, the type of car/phone/clothes/anything you own gives people an instant impression. If you wear something or own something just because it's expensive and everyone knows, what's the point? But, if you buy something for professional use, or because it is useful, then I'm all for it.
For example, I just bought the new iPhone 3G. I didn't buy it because it's really nice looking, I bought it because it's really useful. However, my friend has the original iPhone, and has a $600 case for it. The latter of the examples is the wrong way to go about something, in my opinion. At that point, it's mostly showing your wealth, because the case is worth more than what it's protecting. My friend is what I like to call a conspicuous consumer. That's generally not a good thing, and people look down on you for it.
Finally, please spell/grammar check. If you are as wealthy as you say, please invest in your education first, as this is arguably the best investment you can make.

Heckling may be unavoidable (thinks of the Simon Cowell interview for his last time he went round the Top gear track), here or in the car.
For the money, wouldn't a better car be worthwhile? I'm thinking along the cost of the mentioned cars - and thinking that there are ones reviewed that would fit the bill. (Something with a little class, or that shows some knowledge of cars - from your Atom to your kit car to your lesser known cars - sports car, exec car or other)
It might seem flashing the cash. A car is an instantly identifiable item and how luxurious is pretty identifiable too. Most people can give a rough idea of the running costs and purchase cost of a given range of cars.
Insurance and running / purchase costs, and the driver actually being suited for the car are the things basically that spring to mind. One thing you could do is actually take some sort of advanced driving course (they do it over in the UK, not sure about US) - you get insurance discount, and also it's a rebuttal to anyone who'll call you up on the car's performance and assume potentially quite correctly that you'll be quite reckless in a high performance car.

I can't hate... I do too :D, I like Maybach 62's Those recliners are NICE!
Notable in Nashville, perhaps, but they're less memorable in new york.

LUCKY. my absolute current fav. car is a Bentley Continnental GTC

i would personally spend the money elsewhere and/or save. you could also get a cheaper luxury car too, and have some money left over.
if not, just do what you're going to do. i'm not sure if you wanted just opinions or maybe some attention in the forums. people are going to think whatever they think positive or negative and you're going to be cruising around in your nice car regardless.

I know buying a big fancy car is not exactly preaching the word. But I feel it is a reward in the making for my young life, I was FAR from rich. Bankrupt in 98'. don't heckle me cause I made things happen. I consider that blatant disregard for what I have made happen. Though I get by with a little help from my friends
Umm, an explanation is in order. If you had a bankruptcy in 98, that would imply you did it at age 7. Not possible. Any modification in age?

Heckling may be unavoidable (thinks of the Simon Cowell interview for his last time he went round the Top gear track), here or in the car.
For the money, wouldn't a better car be worthwhile? I'm thinking along the cost of the mentioned cars - and thinking that there are ones reviewed that would fit the bill. (Something with a little class, or that shows some knowledge of cars - from your Atom to your kit car to your lesser known cars - sports car, exec car or other)
I really like the Atom. My Uncle Mark and his wife, Aunt Cindy, rented one in San Francisco, Ca a few weeks ago Everyone was taking pictures of it seeing as it is an odd looking car. They are BOTH real estate Agents, yes both of them. However, the Atom is like a motorcycle with 4 wheel's and 2 seats :) super economical, and fast. But it seems most of the macrumors forum members are VERY concerned with me dying hahahah

Quote Backed out of the driveway(which is oddly angled), and hit them in there door while they were re roofing my neighbors house(directly across the street)..
they took the car to a "friends" to get it quoted and they said 1300... this car is not new. it is an older model late 90's chevy 2 door. My dad did the same thing last year and it was into her(the same neighbors) son's BRAND new truck, literally. and it was only 2k, and it was on the door hinge.
I think there quote is more then a quote if you know what I mean.. I think the car owner has an agreement with there "friend" the mechanic.
My point is... what should be done.
It is not like they can call the cops. or sue. but, they will kill.

If you can afford it, then fine. We live in a free country and you can buy whatever you want. I have friends that have BMW's, Mercedes, Lexus's, and things of that nature.
I think that it would be near impossible to insure a 17 year old boy driving a $100,000 car. Its probably not likely that any parent would pay for it either.
The average adult would probably be angry to see a 17 year old boy driving a car worth at the very least worth 2x as much as their car just because they've worked for years and probably can't afford anything that expensive. I would also surmise that this kid is full of *&$#.
You will find that some of the richest people in the world don't drive the flashiest cars. I think the 6th richest guy in the world drives some 1980's volvo wagon. I know the Vice President of Gulf Oil, he drives a Lincoln continental and his wife drives a Ford Explorer, their house is big but not showy and they have a nice cottage on cape cod.
And to comment on your signature, as a somewhat materialistic person I think having the means to support yourself and do/by fun things may be necessary to have happiness in today's society, I don't think its everything. I know a lot of very wealthy, very talented people that are very unhappy with their lives. I myself am not a very happy person most of the time. I have 2 nice houses, a nice car in my mind compared to the majority of teenagers, my parents have been very successful and I've been able to travel and afford things, and I haven't suffered a lot of emotional or physical trauma. but I am still not happy with my life.

I asked what it would take to get the funding to buy a complex of that sort, actually build it. That goes GREAT with my investment portfolio. just do not have 16 million right "now". Getting a smaller engined car will stop you speeding/ showing off to your friends and possibly killing yourself.
No, not really. It just means you won't be going as fast when you do it.
uh yeah, dude I went and could insure an 99 Ferrari 360 Modena for 1158
That's per month, right?
Get an R1.
http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:pZ9XVsmsoa2byM:http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/photos/prototype-spy-concept/Yamaha-R1-GoldEdition-small.jpg

Heck, I'm 23, and if I had the money to buy a BMW 7, MB CLS (ugliest car they've ever made), or a Quattroporte, I actually wouldn't buy any of them. I'd get two cars, one for daily driving, and the other for a track beast.

Seriously this would be in my MacRumors thread hall of fame.
As for insuring a Ferrari for $1158 or whatever you mentioned that would have to be per month haha. My insurance is actually pretty low at $1600 for a 17 year old male. My friends (17) dad is a top executive at an insurance company and his insurance on his 2001 BMW 525i is $2000/yr. So how you would do $1158 a year is beyond me. If its $1158 a month thats over $13,000 a year, which is the price of a car in many peoples books.

if you were to get a "high end" car you'd be much better served by something like a BMW 3 series. Far more reliable than a mercedes or, god help you, a Ferrari or other Italian sports car. Do you know how much time a car like that is going to spend in the shop? A BMW would be far more reliable. But why would you even consider a 7 series? Those things are boats; anybody under 60 driving one looks ridiculous (and for the 60+ crowd, it's only Ok because we expect it of them ;)). A 3 series would be far more reasonably priced, reliable, and pretty darn nice. Just my opinion.

Just yesterday in my town I saw a Quatroporte. I've seen a maybach in my town. I know there's a Rolls Royce in my town and I always see one in a neighboring town. There are also a handful of Lotuses around. Good amount of Range Rovers. Down on the merit parkway and other highways leading to NYC seeing a Bentley, Ferrari, Lamborghini, or anything along those lines isn't all that uncommon relatively speaking. When you're in Boston or NYC you see a good amount of high end cars as well.

It just is a Feminine car. 85% of the people you see driving them are woman. It is a vehicle targeted for woman- compact size, car like feel, not that woman can't drive a large car, thats not what I am saying at all, it just is a product targeted towards woman.
The 400h is actually a pretty fast car, 7.3 seconds for 0-60 which isn't bad for an SUV. Its not a mid size SUV, and I don't understand anything else you said.

I am 19 and purchased a 2008 Honda Civic Si about 5 months ago and love it. I am not as rich as you are claiming you will be, but that doesn't matter either way, because if you earn what you have yourself, than it's satisfying. On the other hand, I will never buy another car BRAND new again. 1-3 years old for sure, but not brand new off the lot. Depreciation, whether it's a $15,000 Hyundai or $150,000 BMW, is not worth it. And most of all, a brand new car doesn't impress the people that really matter, and it's not a sound investment. Granted, I've learned that the hard way, I hope you take that into consideration when you're buying(and who are we kidding, everyone under the age of 25 buys a brand new car to impress someone, somewhere.) In the end I love my car and am completely happy with it, but wouldn't buy new if I had to do it all over again. Buy something nice by all means if YOU are earning it, just not brand new.

Nice! I got the coupe in rally red, it is definitely a great car, and a blast to drive! And compared to a lot of other cars, it will hold in value, just overall, I don't think I'll finance a new car again.

So now you wanna know?? Ok. well. I have a guy in Beijing who has been selling me REAl 3G iPhones for 520 for an 8GB. Which I sold for 900 on Debut week. I sold 247 that week alone... do that math. I have since sold a few hundred weekly. various places. Friends, Family, friends friends and families co workers.
I will not reveal my source. But he knows the right people at Apple, Foxconn, and a bunch of distributors for Apple and others. Seeing as school has started I have REEAAALLY cut down on sales, about 10 daily. But will soon be selling the new iPods(which I know NOTHING about) as he was jacking up his iPhone unit cost.
That is all I am saying. But I am doing other things also, selling other items mainly.
But do the math say I sold 300 units WEEKLY for a profit of about 285(it varies oddly from day to day) that would be 2400 units as of now time the 285 dollar profit. Wow, I am currently now at roughly 684k. I am actually RIGHT around that for two months of work.
Call me a liar, or whatever. But I thought I could just ASK some questions.

Seriously dude, if you can afford it go for it, and enjoy yourself when you total it when you get drunk at one of your high school jock parties! I bet you'll enjoy that mark on your insurance record.
Oh and by the way... anyone who has your opinions of money is really screwed up in the head. Money does not cause happiness. Seriously dude, get real! It's my friends who never see their parents that are truly the poor ones, because their parents love money more then they love their kids.

No that's not what I'm trying to say. But, seriously dude, there are more important thing then money and possessions. It doesn't matter what kind of car you have, or how much money you have. Because none of it can replace how love makes you feel. Sure it's nice to have expensive things. I would really like to have a octo-core MP, but not if it means that my Mom has to work so much that I would never see her. IMO you seriously need to recheck your priorities.

Don seemed to be pretty honest with you and that seemed like a pretty snide comment back. I think he's right though. Money is not the root of happiness. Like I said before the richest (economically speaking) people I know live very modestly. The people with the most money problems I see are those that always strive for more and more and more.

Still with hold business adventures like investments and things, but be able to give my family more attention then necessary. I lived the same way as you at some point to bud. I say forget the stuff regarding your driving history, not having enough experience to own an expensive car, etc. Do we all need to start on old $3000 beater cars before we move up to expensive cars? No, and it's not our business to really discuss what you, me, and others can and cannot afford. We have our own budget, although your money is imaginary....
But honestly......a Maserati? It'll look like you stole your rich granddad's car. Even if you were buying an expensive car because you want something cool, that's not a cool car. I'm surprised I don't see a Jaguar on that list, or a Caddy. Perhaps the Merc SL is pretty sweet, but everything else on the list wasn't designed to be cool for someone your age. They're just expensive, and people will be amazed because it's an expensive car. That's it. If I bought an expensive car for attention, I'd make sure it was cool. I certainly wouldn't be starting more threads full of your hopes, dreams, imaginary money, and cars you probably can't afford.
Does anyone remember that thread about his sister that this kid started. It was a late night thread that was awesome, hillarious, a few people including myself got temporarily banned, and the thread was sent to the wasteland.

How does a 17 year old get a "guy" in Bejing? And a 17 year old is running all of this out of his house? I can just imagine the trucks dropping crates of 3G iPhones off weekly and you signing for it.
God it sounds like the plot of American Gangster, except you replaced heroin with iPhones.
Man this is great, I think we should just wrap this thread up with funny quotes from the OP.
I have a few women interested in me, atleast I know they are, and I refer to them as women.
also.... she thinks everything I own, which is quiet a bit, is hers because of her last name being mine...

Yea I forgot to comment that a 16 million dollar credit line is pretty big, considering I don't think anyone under the age of 18 can really get a loan.

Mainly craigslist. they SERIOSULY took off. I did some on feebay(400 or so) but they deleted and banned me for not having "authentic" items. They were authentic. I got one neutral feedback for the buyer being charged for import fees blah blah. they also closed me down to "inspect" my account as my business boomed and they have since asked me for a lot of paper work like fed tax i.d., state resell i.d. and other junk. I gave up they deleted my account and I no longer can make/ login on ebay.

My question is: If he has been selling iPhones from China for 8 weeks like he says (300 units/week, 2400 units sold so far x $285 profit/unit = $684,000), then why did he ask about getting a job at Target or Walgreens less than 1 month ago? He would have had 4 weeks of profits ($684,000 / 2 = $342,000) sitting in the bank at the end of July.
But I digress. The kid wants a soccer mom's SUV. I find that, and his desire to make out with his sister, to be of far greater concern than his wealth, health, and everything else.

Honestly, I don't think you know where I'm coming from. But that's beside the point.
I have a few questions for you... what will you do if you can't realize your "dream". Then what? Will you be crushed because you can't retire at the age of 30? Will you always be thinking of what it would have been like had you made your millions? Seriously, I'm all for dreaming but dream realistically.
Money has it's evils to dude. Old "friends" will popup from nowhere. And people won't like you and love your for who you are, but rather for what you have. That is a very common side effect of having vast sums of money. And studies have shown that rich people are some of the most depressed people alive, because they have no one that truly loves them. I'd like to have some money, but I wouldn't want to be the next Bill Gates either.
I say forget the stuff regarding your driving history, not having enough experience to own an expensive car, etc. Do we all need to start on old $3000 beater cars before we move up to expensive cars?
