View Full Version : Guy installs a PowerMac G4 in his car!

This guy has a website of how he installed a PowerMac G4 in his car. He also created a program for the computer that displays in a monitor above the radio, the time, gas tank, speed, current playing song (which he is using the G4 as a stereo) and all sorts of other data. He even set-up another monitor in the back, that could show movies to the passengers. Pretty crazy stuff, I figured I'd post the link cause I know you all would be amazed as I was about his work.

Site doesn't load through Safari or IE for me, must be messed up. There's a guy who set up a clamshell iBook in his car though... that was cool. Too bad I can't find the link.

That is utterly amazing! I bet you after that conversion he could get a job at any car manufacturer!

That is so well done. I wish I could do something like that. :D The only problem is... what happens if you crash it?

I would love to do this to my Matrix. There's a pretty big space under the passenger seat which got me thinking about flattening out a G4 cube. However there's some big things stopping me like:
1) Cost... G4 Cube + touch screen LCD + power supply = big $'s
2) Mounting and insulation/temp control... I'm not even sure you can flatten out a cube to fit in the gap under the seat (and what if a big guy sat down in the back?) Then there is the -30 to +50 celcius range that it would have to handle from winter to summer (the +50 assumes that I'll be parking outside in the summer sun every once in awhile)
3)Rewiring and software controls... if I were to do it I would really want to use the computer to handle everything from running lights to graphing fuel consumpion, speed, rpm, etc.
4) The planning to pull all of this off would be huge and since this is my daily driver I'd need it fuctionable in a reasonable amount of time.
But kudos to this guy for making it happen I hope others can learn from his experience.

The Germans in this Forum might know Brabus, probably the biggest professional car tuning company in Germany. I sure would like to know if Brabus would make a mod like that, though I probably would choose an Xserve for the mod.
Cheers,
Ahmed
