iTunes Skipping

I have been having a really annoying problem with iTunes.

Whenever I try to play a CD through iTunes 2.0.4, it pauses every few seconds during the first few tracks. The same CD plays fine through Apple CD Audio Player.

I have a G4-450 (AGP) with a DVD-ROM drive running OS X 10.1.4.

Anyone experience the same problem or have any fix.
