reducing processor power

Well, I've seen the "Reduce processor performance" setting in the energy saver system preference and decided to check it. Using skidmarks gt, here are the benchmarks before and after.

Before: Integer 2434
Floating Point 1702
Vector 2103

Now with reduced processor performance

Integer 2027
Floating Point 1418
Vector 1752


All of the numbers after were about 83% of what they were before. because of this, I'm assuming that with that feature checked, processor drops to 667mhz from 800mhz. Is that the only difference? Does it turn off the L3 cache? What about the 667DVI, what does that processor do when you tell it to reduce its performance?

...but in OSX you can do a few things:

1) open up terminal, type "sysctl hw" and post the results here
2) skidmarks should tell you your processor clock frequency
3) there's a free program called techmeasure LITE that measures this sort of thing, google for it.

Can't speak for the 800Mhz version....

But on the system profiler in OS 9 on a 500 TiBook, the speed is listed as 300Mhz to 500Mhz G4........

So I guess that on a 500, on reduced processing power, it becomes a 300Mhz G4......

And it truely sucks in speed....... :p

I don't have to restart the computer or anything, do I? I have the "reduce processor performance" setting checked, but the profiler still says 800mhz and "sysctl hw" in the terminal still says 800000000 as cpufrequency ;)
skidmarks says the timebase frequency is 33.2 Mhz.

Also, is this feature available on all Macs? This document says it's only available on powerbook dvi's.
