A few years back I got this fat LucasArts game pack and have Sam & Max, IJ: Fate of Atlantis, and Day of the Tentacle. Unfortunately, my AluBook won't start up into 9, and they don't work through classic.
Then I read about this ScummVM thing and was elated!!!! After quite a number of fruitless and frustrating hours, I am still no closer to badassin' it with the freelance police, or globetrottin' with Dr. Jones!!
I even tried out that ScummAqua, but have had absolutely no luck. I searched the internet for help but found none. In the "New Sam & Max" thread I thought a few people mentioned that the were playing the original via ScummVM. Help please! Thanks.

Well, I'm downloading the Sam&Max demo right now and I'll see what happens...
My guess is maybe there's a file on the CD you have to load into the emulator?

I've been combing through the readme (I suggest you do the same) and I noticed this:
5.0) Running ScummVM:
---- ----------------
Before you run the engine, you need to put the game's datafiles in a
directory. The filenames must not be in mixed case on *nix systems
(for example, these are valid names: "monkey2.000", "MONKEY2.000", while
this is a bad one: "Monkey2.000"). If you use a game with speech, the file
monster.sou must reside in the same directory as the datafiles.
ScummVM can be launched directly by running the executable. In this case,
the in-built launcher will activate. From this, you can add games (click
'Add Game'), or launch games which have already been configured.
ScummVM can also be launched into a game directly using Command Line
arguments - see the next section.
Maybe this has something to do with your problem? I dunno, it just seemed to jump out at me.

On the Mac versions of the games, there is just one data file that doesn't look like those at all.
The ReadMe mentions a thing called rescumm-ing, but I couldn't get anything to happen there either.

Maybe try fooling around with the PC versions and using those files.

I have Mac only discs, and even then I don't have a PC (thank God!)

I thought maybe they were Hybrid CDs, is all.

From the readme:
5.5 Using data files from Macintosh game versions:
--- ----------------------------------------------
All LucasArts SCUMM based adventures except CMI also exist in versions for the
Macintosh. ScummVM can use most (all?) of them, however, in some case some
additional work is required. First off, if you are not using a Macintosh for
this, accessing the CD/floppy data might be tricky. There are various tools on
the net for this, though.
Secondly, most of the newer games shipped only with a single data file on the
Macintosh. You first have to run the 'rescumm' tool from the scummvm-tools
package to extract the data files ScummVM expects. You invoke rescumm like
this (where DATAFILE is the path to the single big data file):
rescumm DATAFILE
It will extract the data into the current directory, so make sure to run it from
a writable directory.

Yes, the rescumm idea is all fine and dandy, however I am incredibly inept at the terminal where all this work is done.

Well, the night and sleep ran into my productivity, so I'll give it another shot when I get home.

Well, got it working.
There was a vital step we were skipping, Stoid.
