Rather than see all these threads about people dropping their iPhones and cracking their screens, why don't we get a sticky where we can see all the horror, and none of the bickering
Fill out the following details
1) Picture
2) Any kind of protection (case ? )
3) How it Landed
4) Why did it Happen
5) Resolution ( new phone, replaced, price repaired, etc)

I don't know if we need a sticky but one thread for all the posts would be helpful.
I would also suggest that they indicate if they had a case and or screen protector on their Iphone. And any indication of how the phone landed would be helpful, edge, face, back etc. (what type of case may protect the best)

Then I guess we need a sticky thread about 'water' damaged phones...
1. How it happened
2. How they 'fixed' it if at all
3. What case it was in if any
4. Replacement cost if replaced

The screen of my first generation 8 gig iPhone broke over Spring Break when I was visiting friend at Mizzou (I used to go there before I transferred to UT). It was late and I was going to crash on a friends couch, but before I did, I asked if she had a wall adapter for an ipod/iphone so I could charge it overnight.
She did and I plugged it in the wall adjacent to the wall that the couch was on and put the phone on the side table, making the cord slightly taut and raised above the ground. Well a friend came downstairs in the middle of the night and tripped on it and it flew across the room and hit the only small patch of tile there was, causing the screen to shatter.
I was pretty upset, but not angry because it was just a stupid mistake. Two days later when I flew back into Dallas, I made an appointment at the Southlake Apple Store where I was prepared to pay the $250 to replace it. I showed it to the genius who thought it was odd that the digitizer was still responsive, and just straight up replaced it, free of charge.
I had a case, but took it off to charge it that night, and no screen protector at that point. I think it probably landed face down, directly on the glass, because there was absolutely no scratches or dents on the back/bezel.
I posted this in another thread yesterday. My iPhone took a nasty fall on asphalt while I was taking it out of my pocket. I bought it about two weeks after the launch day of the original iPhone. It broke after the launch of the iPhone 3G which I had no intentions of purchasing.

I figured I could live with it until another iPhone revision. So hopefully I can upgrade if there is a new one this summer.

Wow that sucks. I plan on keeping my first gen for as long as possible or until at&t decides to quit overcharging for their 3G service.

they dont overcharge. its the same rate as any other blackberry, smartphone, etc whether its 3g or not. the reason it was $20 before is because apple and at&t had a special deal for the 1st gen iphone. now its over and you pay the same as everyone else.

The reason for the sticky is simple... people on this forum refuse to use the search function
i think its just easier if there is a single thread, that way we can have it much more organized.. and well a lot less bickering as well

You need to change the title to "Cracked iPhone Screen Thread" as people may confuse this for the plastic cracks on the outside of iPhone 3Gs.

Sorry... I don't think we need a sticky or otherwise for a general discussion of this topic. Screens crack. Meh.
