A random thread for completely random stuff.

This thread will be wastelanded at the end of the day, so spam it with silliness if you like. Once it's wastelanded, any posts within will not go towards personal post totals.

What's on your mind?

I'm on the horns of an enema. If bunny to the power of banana equals bunny to the power of el chippo times bunny to the power of banana plus el chippo times pi, then what is bunny to the power of banana times bunny to the power of el chippo times pi? This has left me befuddled since waking up at 6:30 this morning, the mind vacillating betwixt and between a solemn contentment and a manic malaise.

I need to vent. Again.

Apple are not making anything at the moment I want. They're gimping things left, right and centre. Reduce the capacity of the iPod Classics, put glossy displays in everything, this weird new and costly ACD, futzing around with the Mini, ditching firewire, introducing proprietary connectors. Just like the first iPhone's indented headphone port that required a custom plug.

It's getting effing stupid. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dib2-HBsF08)

The action scenes were good (or better than good), but the plot just didn't carry its weight. Maybe, if I see it again, I'll have a different opinion about that, but I'm sticking with Casino Royale being better than this one.

The only thing I want from Apple right now is a better, more equipped Apple TV and it doesn't sound like this is gonna happen, maybe not even in January.:( Getting fed up with their attempts to make me drink the Kool-Aid with every product they release.

Thanks for the info. For me, if the plot's not there, the action (no matter how well done) is diminished.

It's actually been probably 6 months since the last time I ate there so I don't remember the prices. When ours first opened, I was there maybe once a week and I never had to place my order. next time you go look at the difference between the triple lindy and the joey bag of doughnuts and getting the cheaper one with guac added. There is, at least in Louisville, a strange price difference.

Are you saying that it costs more to get the cheaper one and add guac than it is to get the more expensive one with guac already on it?

I don't know if they had it in Louisville, but here in Chattanooga, they had a "Cup of Fat" on the menu for $9.99. After going there for months, I finally asked the cashier what the hell a "Cup of Fat" was. He told me that it is just up there to be funny, but you can actually order a "Cup of Fat" for $9.99 and it will ring up on your ticket. They took it off the menu about a year ago though.

I made my coffee a little too strong this morning. Bitter.....

The advantage of being at home right now is that I get to watch my wife work (she works from home). She's so cute when she's fully focused on work..... :)

What should I make for lunch?

What should we have for dinner?

I'm thinking of trying to find one of the beers on the American Beer Thread today to drink with/after my dinner.

Looks like I'm going to need to kick on the A/C later today- it's going to be 85º this afternoon! I sure don't miss the high of 56º that Toronto is experiencing today!

I'm looking forward to going to the gym later. It's a shoulder and biceps day with a little bit of cardio mixed in (even though I ran 2.5 miles last night).

To jailbreak or not to jailbreak? That is the question......

There is no such thing as coffee that's too strong. I'm limited by the capacity of my filter tray.

Maybe that's why no-one else will drink my coffee?

Of course I get weird looks from people who make "strong" coffee when they offer some and I take it black, of course they always ask "are you sure?"

I didn't think it was very good, but 4 was my least favorite in the series.

I think they just tried too hard with the whole timeline twist in that one.

This one was way more a CSI type story than any of the previous ones - probably had as much dialogue as the previous four combined.

I guess we'll have to wait until next year to see where things go from here...

No, it was something I'd seen elsewhere and for a while, I had been thinking of starting it as a Friday fun thing to do for community ice-breaking.

We'll do it every Friday to let off steam if people like having a relatively unmoderated space to just chat. Each of them will be wastelanded sometime after midnight PST when it's Saturday morning here in the UK.

1. If you are attacked by an anaconda, do not run. The snake is faster than you are.

2. Lie flat on the ground. Put your arms tight against your sides, your legs tight against one another.

3. Tuck your chin in.

4. The snake will begin to nudge and climb over your body.

5. Do not panic.

6. After the snake has examined you, it will begin to swallow you from the feet end – always from the feet end. Permit the snake to swallow your feet and ankles. Do not panic!

7. The snake will now begin to suck your legs into its body. You must lie perfectly still. This will take a long time.

8. When the snake has reached your knees, slowly and with as little movement as possible, reach down, take your knife and very gently slide it into the side of the snake’s mouth between the edge of its mouth and your leg, then suddenly rip upward, severing the snake’s head.

9. Be sure you have your knife.

10. Be sure your knife is sharp.

http://www.darwinawards.com/darwin/darwin1999-12.html

Todd Cook says: "As an informed Herpetologist, I can tell you that this is not true. Anacondas, boa constrictors and pythons swallow from the head down 99% of the time, almost always after constricting the prey to death. Even if a snake finds a dead animal it will often constrict it to make sure it is dead before eating it."

An American woman has revealed how she was swindled out of $400,000 (£269,000) by Nigerian internet fraudsters, in what is believed to be one of the biggest cases of its kind ever recorded.

Janella Spears, a registered nurse from Sweet Home, Oregon, said she started sending money to the scammers in 2005 after she received an email promising her several million dollars from a long-lost relative. In what is commonly known as a 419 scam - named after a section of the Nigerian criminal code - the fraudsters randomly contacted Spears over the internet, claiming they would offer her a substantial cut of $20.5m fortune in return for the cash injection which would help move it out of the country.

"I kept thinking it's only a couple hundred dollars - I can get it back," she told local news. Over a period of two years, the fraudsters strung her along and encouraged her to send more payments of up to $14,000 at a time. In the end she became obsessed and sent the fraudsters more than $400,000, which she raised by remortgaging her home and spending her husband's retirement savings.

...

Despite advice from bank officials, police and even the FBI that the scheme was a ruse, Spears said she continued to send cash in the hope of a large pay-off. Even fake emails claiming to be from the President of Nigeria and US president George Bush could not dissuade her.

That's terrible. Her internal struggle must of been devastating; to stop sending money would be to admit that she had been scammed, but the result of this denial was the loss of hundreds of thousands of dollars.
