i have a g3 imac at 500mz with 384 ram.

i want to plug in my guitar to my mac and record live.

the box says 600 mz or higher g3

should there be any reason that it wouldn't install? has anyone used GB on a machine this slow? does the extra 100mz make or break it?

You are going to have some serious slowness issues with garage band with a computer that slow. I bet it will still WORK, but will be pretty much unusable. Apple's minimum requirements are usually at the barely usable line anyway.

I tried it on a G3 900 my friend has the other day, and it was very slow.
You'll be fine using almost any other music app.
Maybe Apple will eventually include a 'freeze track' function to GB. In any case, GB sucks up a rediculous amount of juice from the computer. Don't know why.

Your iBook has only a 67 MHz bus. This will also be a bottleneck, as much as your slow processor (though I shouldn't call a 500 MHz G3 slow when it's faster than anything I have at home), so you likely won't get much use out of GarageBand. Going to a full 640 megs of RAM would likely help, but only a bit.
