How about an airbag that deploys at the instance of freefall to protect an iBook or Powerbook? Similar to the way the Mars Rovers land?
Just a funny thought thats nice to imagine.

thats really cool....however wont help you if your lcd breaks or your plastic case conponets or cpu or any othe rparts become damaged by the impace... in only protects the harddrive because it will make the harddrive date more easily recoverable ...which is good, but youve still lost the laptop.

These are some of the features that I want in a laptop:
Shock-resistance
Spill-resistance
Vibration-resistance
Dust-resistance

Well closed 'Books are pretty shock resistant. There are plenty of stories of flying 'Book being ok after landing. The iBook HD is even enclosed in a rubber case to protect from shock/vibration.
My iBook also appears spill-proof as I once spilt beer over the keyboard (dooooh!). Rapid and calm reaction from me and everything is fine.

So maybe you need a PowerBook that electrocutes you whenever you get within 6 inches of it. That way, it'll be "idiot proofed".

I take it you have an bluetooth keyboard and un-heard-of screen to use it? Jeez, that lead must be a pain for the bluetooth electromagnetic waves :p :p :p

I'm still for Capt Underpants idea of an idiot proof mechanism but PBook G5's solution seems a bit painful to me :p

All that sounds good but I've got a simple Kensington key lock on my 15" Al Pb in my dorm.
Does the trick for me.

I've never spilt beer on my ibook but I did have one of those squishy stress balls break and the black particle dust dumped all over my lap and G3 800mhz ibook. A little shaking and some canned air took care of it, although I do still have some particle crap stuck under the keys.
