need help with lightwave 3d modeling from you pros

i'm a beginner when it comes to 3d modeling but i'm kinda getting the hang of some things...one has stumped me though, and i feel like its so obvious its driving me CRAZY!!

anyway accidently got a 6 sided polygon and need to 2 4 sided ones...and i made to seperate 4 sided ones but the main 6 sided one still counts as a polygon..basically i need it to not recognize it as one big one...here is the picture...

the outline black is what it keeps thinking is a 6 sided polygon even though i made it into 2 four sided ones which gave me the resulting red line. any help would be appreciated.

{edit} holy crap i think i might have figured it out!!!!!!

Its quite simple actually and there are a couple ways to do it.

One would be to triangulate the polygon (select it and hit "T") then select two of the triangles and hit "Z" - merge polys, deselect it, and select the other two triangles and then "Z" again. Then you have your two 4 sided polys.

You can also use the knife and weld points to get the same results.

Or get the point values and set the values.

Or create the object in Illustrator or some other vector tool and import it.

And I'm sure there are a couple other ways to do it.

So, I have to ask, what's it going to be?
