There was one guy in the UK that commited suicide in an Maclean F1 a few years ago. He was about to be arrested for insider trading, so he decided to drive at over 200mph into a tree.

and by the way, the pages at that site have this really annoying "talking" banner ad on EVERY PAGE with a photo, so I would suggest muting while visiting the site...

If memory serves me correct the Enzo was named after Ferrari's owner? Would be pretty ill if that's his car pictured.

Enzo Anselmo Ferrari was the founder of the company 1898 - 1988 (i think)
'Scudaria Ferrari' was first the Racing Department of Alfa Romeo and split sometiems between 1930-1945
after the WW 2 it was it's own company

Somebody needs a long slow death for that... That car is ART goddammit! Limited edition ART too.
That car needs a decent burial with a marker that lists it's number and the means of it's destruction.
The driver should be dipped alive in bronze and displayed alongside the car's resting place.

If it were, and belonged to my old neighbour, I wouldn't expect it to get past 1st gear...
...I STILL have tormented flashbacks of old Mrs. Dobson driving out of the street to the supermarket in her car (a little Mini) - listening to the bloody thing struggle along the main road for a few kilometres, from the sanctity of my back yard (yes - I could hear it... the poor 1275cc engine labouring under the hopefully grim - yet false - premise that maybe the deaf old bat might decide to change gears at some point...).
Funny thing is - my stupid BROTHER bought the car a few years later...
(Always thought he was a moron - after all, he IS an active PC user...)
...duh!
...But I digress - do continue.

In this case, since first gear probably maxes out at about 60mph, you could keep it in first all the way to the shops! :p

AFAIK it is now owned by the partially bankrupt FIAT Corporation and there is more than one carmaker out there that (BMW, Mercedes, Volkswagen and others) would love to buy Ferrari from FIAT.

Well lets hope FIAT doesn't have any ugly sceletons in the locker like a certain other italian company. And that about Volkswagen, I can't really agree with you, Porsche is owned by Volkswagen but can pretty much do its own thing. I doubt Wendelin Wideking (CEO of Porsche) would say that Volkswagen being the owner of Porsche is detrimental for their business. Ferrari would probably turn into something similar as Porsche, an idenpendent entity under the roof of the Volkswagen consortium, same as Audi and Skoda (and who ever else is owned by Volkswagen).
Cheers,
Ahmed

actually without ferdinand porsche there wouldn't be any Volkswagen...he invented the famous 'Kaefer' or 'Bug' in the 30ties-40ties (during the war) because the massmurder-insane-dictator #1 wanted a 'cheap car for the masses'
the result was the KDJ-Car which, a little bit redesigned, was released after the war as the 'bug' from a company named 'Volkswagen' ....
all of porsches most famous designs like the 911 are based on _that_ car
and of course Porsche was of the main designers of german tanks
and btw other german manufatures have simliar histories
BMW: most airplanes engines during WW1 were made by BMW ..the blue-white BMW emblem still reflects this history..it symbols a propeller from an airplane
Maybach: started business with zeppelin/fighting aircraft engines and made cars after WW1
other older german car manufactures like Horch,Henschel, etc. faded away after the wars ...
of course some like 'Auto Union' (known as Audi), 'Daimler-Benz' (Mercedes),and BMW survived until now

£320,000 at todays exchange rate
But the UK price of the Enzo was £420,000 which is $794,388 at todays rate, but $646,086 when the Top Gear website tested it.
*edit* And they made 349 "one less than you can sell" and they were all snapped up within days.

Porsche GmbH is not owned by VW or any other company. Ownership is controlled by the Porsche family.
Ferrari, Alfa and Maserati fall under the FIAT umbrella, which is now partially owned by GM, so don't worry about them being gobbled up by anyone like VW.
VWAG = VW, Skoda, SEAT, Audi (+Lamborghini), Bentley, Bugatti and maybe one more I'm forgetting.

Gasp!
After studying the picture carefully it makes me wonder if this is one of the several that would have been produced and "sacrificed" for US crash test certification. . . Regardless, it's a disturbing sight.

Well if they're rich enough to buy the cars, then there rich enough to crash them. What do I care, to me it's just a piece of metal and carbon fiber. Now if the cars were mine, it'd be a whole different story. ;)
And yes, the rendering on the site seems to be designed for IE. Why can't people code to standards?
Anyone here crashed his/her Dad's car? I have. Though it was a Ford Contour (actually the European version: the Mondeo). Not fun getting home saying "Dad, I trashed your car"... Old story.

By the Porsche Family & the Piech Family to be precise, the main spokesperson of the combined interest which amounts to 50% of the Porsche stock is Dr. Ferdinand Piech who is also former CEO and current chairman of the board of Volkswagen AG. Volkswagen and Porsche share technology in many areas and have other intertwined activities and interests. Short of total ownership I would call this definitely a very close connection between the two companies.

Hmmmmm, if VW got Ferrari they would slowly kill it. Porsche simply wouldn't wear it. Sometimes 2 brands chasing the same market can live together. As someone pointed out, Ferrari are now big brother to Maserati. I saw a new Mazzer in a magazine the other day; basicly a Maserati version of the Enzo. It looks like a black le Mans Bentley, mean looking thing.
However sometimes it just don't work for the good of the buying public. A few years back Ford went on a shopping trip round England and came back with Jaguar as well as Aston Martin. Back in the 60's the Aston of the day and the E-type were almost rivals but for the Jag being cheaper. To avoid that happening again Aston won't let Jaguar go for it on the sports car front. The Jag boys want to make a racy stripped down F-type for the road, but it's not happening while they both live with Ford. All we get are stream lined walnut encrusted retirement cars instead. Sad.

hey ahmed and takao: just a couple of minor corrections from a big Porsche fan.....
Ferdinand didn't design the bug specifically for that evilterribledictator. Porsche was working on an affordable air-cooled design for NSU (no anti-freeze and the lack of a garage for a typical German driver necessitated air cooling rather than water) because he left the Daimler company when he grew tired of producing those huge, ponderous German sedans of the 20s and early 30s. The government liked his ideas and bankrolled the adaptation of his NSU project.
The first cars, built in Wolfsburg, were called KDF wagens ("strength through joy cars") - they even renamed Wolfsburg KDFstaat! Cooler heads prevailed, however, and the VW was born.
Porsche was always pushing his ideas as far as he could, and, as such, was experimenting with a VW race car. Hitler recognized the propaganda value of racing victories, and once again bankrolled the production of Porsche's ideas; funding stopped when the treasury was exhausted during the final days of the war. Even though Porsche was wrongfully imprisoned following the war, his company was now well-enough established to continue working under the guidance of his son Ferry and daughter Louise. (Porsche was in bad shape when he was released. He lived long enough to see the first cars with his name on the back, but he wasn't really a significant part of the company any longer)
The 356 was the first car the company produced under the Porsche nameplate. Practically the entire chassis, engine, and mechanicals were beetle parts - but oh, that body. If you look at the 356's development, you can absolutely see the coming of the 911 in 1964. (It was supposed to be called the 901, but Peugout (sp?) complained, claiming that they had the rights to all 3 digit numbers with 0 in the middle, so Porsche changed to 911). The 912, a 911 with basically the 4 cylinder engine from the 356, outsold the 911 2 to 1 in its' early years.
VW does NOT own Porsche, though they have partnered on many projects over the years, from the 914 through the Toureg. Porsche engineering is a division of the company that gets hired to fix all sorts of problems - even Harley Davidson has gotten some engine design corrections from there.
OK, enough. Sorry that this rambled from a "few corrections" to an historical overview, but, hey, we can't talk Mac all the time, now, can we?
OK, maybe we can.
