iphone speakers?

well i went to the iPhone store the other day and since they didnt have the iPhone nano yet i decided to buy the 3 GEG one, but have noticed that one of the speakers on the bottom of the phone isn't working... if i hold my finger over one of the speakers it goes completely silent, but when i hold my finger over the other one, it doesn't change any....

anyone know if this is a defect? can i return it to the iPhone store?
