print center probs II, prepared to reinstall X

Ok, for anyone ho didn't see it the first time around, I can't print from anything except classic applications in X. I've tried all the suggestions so far, and none have worked. I'm willing to reinstall X from 10.1 (finally got the CD burner working to make a bootable install cd (long story, involves Fry's stealing my X install CD)), but I need to know: is there anything I should do before reinstalling, and am I going to be able to reinstall without formating the HD?

Yeah, a 740. The drivers that came with OS X are supposed to be the most recent, and there are no updates on Epson's driver page for it.
