View Full Version : Need a student developer Hardware Discount asset

Hey everyone,
I ordered a 2.4 Macbook Pro off the student developer site after reading some posts here (see post #4...) (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=652563&highlight=student+developer). I'm not one, but I could access the store and went through with the transaction. So now here I am, needing a hardware discount asset. I totally admit this is my fault, and a definite oversight. But I can only afford one for as much as they're listing there, it's all or nothing...Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave

did you read post #14 on the same thread? I don't really know what else you could do at this point, except become one.

could you re-read your post and make it more clear?
from what I'm reading, you bought a discounted MBP through the developer store.
if you already bought it, why do you need the hardware discount asset?
"but i can only afford one for as much as they're listing there, it's all or nothing" this sentence makes no sense. you already bought the mbp.
Are you aware that a person only gets ONE hardware asset for their student membership in their lifetime, regardless of how many times they purchase the $99 membership?

I remember the other thread that he linked to- and he placed an order through the ADC site without being a member (apparently a little bug Apple?) and thought the order had sneaked through. Fast forward to when the unqualified order was held up pending signing up for a Student Developer membership and faxing proof of student status, etc. as required by the ADC.
Now fast forward again to the new thread here, since the OP apparently doesn't want to spend the $99 for a membership or something.

ah. so instead of forking over the $99 for the membership, he wants someone who DID spend the $99 to fork over THEIR one-time discount?
well, i would suggest that the OP contact Apple and cancel his order, and then purchase something within his means......

TL;DR = Hey guys, I'm not in any way, shape, or form eligible for any type of discount on this computer. How can I lie to Apple and screw them out of $400. Also, can one of you legit students just do this for me?

That is wrong in so many levels man. Better delete that comment before it gets flamed.

It was definitely just some sarcasm...

OP, you're better offer paying a Premier subscriber like $100 for one of their discounts.
However, I am willing to sell you my discount for $350.

at this point, i would recommend getting it from ebay. you'll get a nice discount if you're patient.

as everyone else said, the best help we can give you is to cancel buy something cheaper or pay $99 for the membership like the other guy. i think everyone needs their discount for themselves ;).

Seems the OP did not care for the responses.
And to be fair, the OP in this thread is not the one in the other thread that ordered without joining!!!:o:o I screwed up my original summary post I see.
The OP from this thread just saw that they were available for low prices via the info in the other thread and started this thread to try to get an asset without needing to join.
Damn new glasses and old eyes.... my bad! :(

Don't be hard on yourself. I think your original summary post is still spot on. He wasn't the OP from the other thread, but the OP of THIS thread also pulled the same stunt......except that the other OP was willing to pony up the $99
As for the OP's response (or lack thereof) to this thread, according to his public profile, his lack activity was yesterday, shortly after posting his question. It was his first and only post. and he doesn't come back, nothing lost (except if someone else out there wanted to use his screenname).

Here's the thing, too:
Students can't transfer the discount to other students, you can't have a hardware discount transferred to a free account, and I don't think that you can have a hardware discount transferred from a normal account to a student one, either.

Oh thank you-- I thought it was just me. Then again, I suck at trying to figure out the MacHeist puzzles too. ;)

http://thetaalpha970.elance.com/
is the last url on the google search page.
It shows that he is a freelancer who says that he ceased being a student at a university in 2007.
Not only is he NOT a student who is willing to pay for the $99 membership fee, but be isn't even a student TO BEGIN WITH.
that's why i applauded MAGICMOXTER for calling him out.
and i love the quote from family guy he has on his page "and boom goes the dynamite" (which is amusingly appropriate since his deception just blew up in his face)

Thanks for the clarification! I knew the solution would wind up being MacHeist like!:D

Since the OP hasn't clarified that he wishes to do anything above board, and all reasonable interpretations of this request seem to be below board, I'm cutting this off here.
