I know i'm gonna get flamed for this but can any friendly member of the macrumors community help me by looking in the marketplace for me? I don't understand the thinking behind having to have 250 post before being able to access the marketplace.
I'm looking for an aluminium MPB (the model before unibody) 2.4 ghz, 15 inch to buy or do a deal with my 20" Aluminium iMac, 2.66 ghz, 4gb ram, 250gb.
Let the flaming begin...

Because people with one post and no proof of legitimacy shouldn't be allowed to scam people.

Fair enough, I see the reasoning behind that. But 250 posts are rather a lot.

and don't ask what you clearly know is against the rules.

If you know what you are posting, you can do that in a few months.
It's not so bad; besides by then prices should be cheaper…

Unfortunately it encourages posts like this one with limited content. I've been a member for a year or so (I can't remember actually) and I'm only in the 200's somewhere. I try to keep my posts relevant to the topic, add something new, and be unique -- though it's not always successful.

I guess I could just post on the latest "iPhone firmware is out" thread the standard "Cool!" and then "Yay!" and then "Feels snappier" and get some new posts...

If there was a lower post limit, or time + [a lower] post limit, etc. it would be better.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by that. Most of the time, I know what I'm posting, but
1) I'm more of a lurker than a poster - I get most of the information I need using the search function; and
2) I try not to repeat what's already been said in a thread. If someone has already posted something I agree with, then I don't feel I'm adding anything to the conversation by posting something like "+1" or "Amen". But since I learned of the 250-post rule, I've become what I despise...just to get my post count up. I have stuff to sell and things I want to buy and I'd prefer to buy from / sell to other Mac users here than just throwing it out there on eBay. I understand why the rule is in place, but I think 100 posts is more reasonable.

You could do that, but they'd most likely get reported and deleted. We do that routinely, even for people who aren't obviously gunning for increased privileges.

From our point of view, the Marketplace has improved tremendously since we raised the requirements last year. The Marketplace is not meant to be the focus of this site, and we were spending way too much time dealing with problems in there.
Feedback on the Marketplace requirements is welcomed in this thread.
