Just plugged in my iPhone and clicked check for updates (You never know) anyway My MBP said a carrier update is available would you like to download.
I said yes, it took 30 seconds and did not backup the phone as it has in the past.
Then it said update is done.
I'm not sure what happened! Anyone else?

Good lord, talk about jumping down someones throat. Lets try and find a way to tactfully tell him that that update has been out for a while.

I'm not sure what happened! Anyone else? There have been maybe a dozen threads, try this on for a quick summary post by me to the long version. The short version is that this update added it images for the new M-Cell device so that when your iPhone is connected to the M-Cell you will get a pretty icon.

I know what happened. You thought that you were the only person on the planet to get an update to your iPhone and didn't search before posting.
Seriously, are there THIS many people who DON'T plug their iPhone into their computer every day when they get home? How do they charge them?!

Surely it is quicker to charge by a mains plug and you dont need to sync with iTunes every day ?

You... don't have to sync with iTunes to charge it... You can just plug it in via USB (dock) and have it charge.

I only sync my iPhone maybe once a week. Use my USB charger.

I've got the dock. I only sync when I buy something new.

I sync mine every single day. I get updates that I updated last week, last month, etc. There's a serious flaw in the updating process.

I charge my iPhone using the dock overnight when I am at home. I also carry a the charger that came with it in case I need to charge it at work or while I am away from home.
As for syncing, I do that every 3-4 days or when I change the playlist that is on the iPhone.

Then it wouldn't show the update.

You're pretty new to the whole "tubes of the internet superhighway" thing aren't you? ;)

C'mon how can you miss an update from a month ago? Even if you don't sync it a lot you should try to sync the iPhone to the pc at least once every two weeks, just to keep on top with the updates.

I got my 3g in august and I've only synced with a desktop 5 times since.

Imagine if it was your grandmother that posted the question. Would you be as rude?

Yes, seriously, a lot of owners aren't tied to Apple at the hip. Especially since the iPhone became popular outside of Apple fan circles.

Geez people, cut the guy some slack. Not everyone is so anal with their phone that they plug it in every single day anxiously hoping that Apple has graced them with yet another update.

Lol you just alienated half of Mac Rumors users ...
But seriously though a lot of times I just plug my phone into the usb socket and don't bother with checking for updates (Either don't have time or just don't care).
Sometimes when I'm booted in Windows (for games and Blu-Ray ripping) I won't sync for a week or two. When I'm on the road these gaps can grow farther.
It's easy to see why the above would happen. Why do you think Apple and AT&T send out text messages when a major update occurs?

Why would I need to check for updates? As soon as an iPhone update comes out, every tech blog on the net talks about it, it appears on Apple's website, users on here come and talk about it, AT&T sends out text messages about it and it's almost impossible to miss if you search google.
