Yeah... I have to admit... I'm a Windows Power User, so my desktop doesn't look like most peoples desktop. I can do a friggin' lot of stuff with my Windows, and I know how the whole OS works. I guess that's why it's unlikely that I'll ever make the full transition to Mac only -- there are just too many things I can do with my PC.
But hey, I have an open mind... I use Windoze, Linux and Mac OS...

In one of the other forums, I noticed a black background with an Xserve station filled to capacity, along with Hemingray's DANGER button underneath. That was pretty cool.
I used to make some absolutely crazy designs with Photoshop 4 (yes, PS 4, before OS X and before 2001). I could probably do the same with PS 6. If I remember correctly, it had something to do with repeated usage of the gradient tool, or something, using a difference, and just continually going back and forth. I will see what I can do about it. Maybe tomorrow I will have something going out of that.

As I said, I managed to make up some cool designs in Photoshop 4. And it turns out that I can still do them in PS 6.

Hey, I am behind a firewall here, and the IP is assigned by a router. That will make it much more difficult. Seriously. I am sending one to Britboy in Germany, and will be happy to send a CD to you as well. Or, to you have an IP that I can connect to. The domain would not work. resm, try using Appleworks.
(1) Open a drawing document.
(2) Import the image using the Import command from the File menu.
(3) Resize the picture as desired. (For scaled resizing, hold down the shift key and drag the corner of the picture. You may also need to drag the whole picture so that you can find the corner of it so that it can be resized.)
(4) Save as a high quality JPEG.
(5) Attach to your post. DONE!

Listen, snakehater, at least there are crows all around the state, and especially near my home, to cheer me up, as crows are my favorite birds.
Besides, have you heard the recent reports that flowers actually make people avoid depression? That is why people stay happy usually around the state.
The only reason I seem ticked off all the time on the forums is because of my parents...I learned to be profane whe I was 4 freggin' years old.

snakehater???
i don't really understand any of your post. so i'll just continue about the garbage state.
nj has so much toxic and nuclear waste.... it's pouring out of the ground. i believe they have the most waste of any state, or at least the most dense..... plus it's just overcrowded. to say the least. pollution out the wazoo.
jelloworld? what??? i don't eat jello or other gelatin products. not sure what you're talking about.
ps. i lived in nj for 6 years.
King Cobra
Jun 27, 2002, 12:15 PM
This time I misunderstood you. I saw your post about "garbage state" and your current location, so I assumed you were dissing the state, which is where I live. So forget about my other post.
And, true, NJ is the most dense state. And considering that where I live construction is f!!king up the main road traffic just becomes MUCH worse.
As for pollution, have you noticed the Hudson River? Back in the 50s (maybe 60s) there was an area by where the Tapanzee Bridge is now in which you could actually go in the water and fish. But, eventually, gasoline was being dumped into the water, which was crystal clear. They (unsure who exactly) said that they will clean up the river, but apparently these guys haven't done ***** and a half. They try and hold back for a long as possible before someone, which has yet to be done, steps up and finally tells these jerkoffs to clean up the water and their act.
But that's water pollution. The only advantage of being in a crowded state is that you may be able to meet some really nice people. However, along with that, you may meet up with some pr!cks.
Overall, traffic has been terrible this past couple of months in my area of the state. But, in a year, we will be in Maine. So the most spectacular thing to happen by our house is to see a car drive by!

Hey, fyter, Earth to fyterdog!
I think he may post some pic from Area 51, considering the discussion we had last night!
Anyways, you guys talk around me, if you want. I have a new desktop. This one is much more colorful, almost like tiedye (sp)
Hey, I would like that one if you don't mind. Please.

Just give me a few minutes and I'll email it to you. However, I will put a version of my signature on the bottom left corner.
[Edit: B2TM, I am not sure how to send you the desktop picture if you don't have email enabled. Can you tell me another way to get it to you?]
Enjoy.

I don't like desktop clutter and I tend to find normal desktop images distracting (particularly the kind many people have been posting here). So here (if I've done this properly) is my beautiful desktop image of...uh, very dense fog or something. Note that the actual desktop is duller than this in reality since the dock is normally on auto-hide.
The strange aspect ratio (apologies if this wreaks havoc with people's browsers) is due to having two 1280x1024 flat panels hooked up "side by side" to give a 2560x1024 extended desktop.

fyterdog, spell my name correctly! :D
[Man, what a movie, Broken Arrow.]
I made the desktop from complete scratch, using Photoshop 6. It only took me about 5 minutes to get all the colors right, then I had to copy it for a desktop theme, etc.
Would you guys like to know how I do basic designs like this?
YES / NO
3rdpath, I have $20 here, saying that you don't get paid much to s!!! the !!!!! from a !!!!!'s !!!!!!

ROTFLMAO! Listen, cr*tchfyter...
Quick note: I am using Photoshop 6, not 7. So my directions may be a little off for 7.
What I do is open a new document in PS (usually I set it to my screen resolution). For basics I choose two of the exact same colors, except the second one being a little darker than the first. (Example: Color A: H=240º S=1 V=0.9, Color B: H=240º S=1 V=0.7. These are blues.) Then I set the gradient tool to difference. Then I start piling away lines in my drawing document like crazy. I usually use the gradient level with the middle being the first color, instead of it going from one color to a second (it works better). To choose this, look at the black and white formats on the top bar that have the five types of gradient bursts/levels/whatever it's called.
If things do not come out pretty from the start, try double clicking on the colored gradient color pattern on the top bar. Your gradient pattern should be set from foreground to background, left to right.
I know this isn't the best explination, but it gives you the basics. Screw around with your drawing for a while, and you may be able to get one color where you like it.
What I do is once I have lots of wavy patterns, I do a technique that I have no name for. First, find a dominent color you want from your drawing. (You can inverse the colors in the drawing by drawing a long line with the gradient tool.) Hold the mouse down on that color and drag to the center of the document you are working on. Then from that point draw a line that goes as far as possible to the edges of the screen, and the color should multiply. Keep doing this and you might get what you are looking for.
I will have another desktop coming up. Just suggest two colors and I should make something nice out of it. Try it. It's fun.

In what sense?
If it's "why does the image completely wreck the layout of the page?" it's because Command-Shift-3 screendumps both the displays I have hooked up as a single image. Since they're set up to be side by side, it dumps a 2560x1024 image. I guess I could have cropped it, but it'd have lost the "bleak expanse of emptiness" quality that is my desktop.
If it's "what are you doing that you need all that stuff in the dock and/or a very uncluttered desktop?" that's a mixture of web development and software development.
If it's in some other sense entirely let me know, and I'll elucidate :D

ROTFLMGDAO!! Smart one, Pineapple.
Well, I've got another desktop going (yes, I truly am bored :D), but this is not going to be a multi-colored wave. Instead, it's basically my first ever gradient difference custom pattern desktop.
Have a look.
