Hello,
I have a Macbook 13 inch Unibody and i want to purchase a monitor for it.

-I was looking at the 22 inch Gateway for $199.
-Does anyone know if this is compatible with mac? Are all monitors compatible with mac?
-Here is the monitor (the picture doesnt do it justice, it looks nice in person and has a nice glossy screen)
http://www.gateway.com/systems/product/529668252.php

This is what i ended up getting (the gateway listed above)
with these cables: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB570Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDA3Ng&mco=MjE0ODQ0Mg and http://store.apple.com/us/product/TR842LL/A?fnode=MTY1NDA3Ng&mco=MjQzNDExMw

There's nothing about mac that would be incompatible with a monitor, just find out what display connection you need (the website seems to show both VGA and DVI) and get the correct Mini-Displayport adapter from Apple. :)

Samsung's monitors are somewhat incompatible with the mini display port (at least, TV's). But if you're going to spend that much on a monitor, you might like this one better.

I bought it, and it was worth every penny.:)

The main advantage is that DVI-D won't require you to "sync" the monitor, ever, whereas I've noticed, sometimes LCD screens look a little "off" with LCD, so you have to hit the reset or sync button on the panel. DVI-D automatically maintains this.

Thanks! i wish my monitor came with the DVI cable instead of VGA. im going to go out and get the DVI cable. Thanks for the quick Response!!!

I don't mean to hijack, but since the OP is done I might as well ask without starting a new thread. Can I do Mini DP>DVI>VGA? Or, use a Mini DP to DVI and then use a DVI to VGA converter. I figured if I could it would be worth saving the $26 to get another cable.

No. The MDP-->HDMI adapter only carried DVI-D signal (digital). To go from DVI-->VGA, you need either DVI-I or DVI-A (carries both, or just analog respectfully)

You should be fine with that. The MDP-->VGA doesn't carry enough voltage for Samsungs (or a ground issue, I forget which). The MiniDVI-->DVI doesn't involve a Digital-->Analogue conversion, so you'll be dandy with your blackbook

Be sure to get a DVI cable with the correct pin pattern (single link, DVI-D) otherwise it won't fit in the MDP-->DVI adapter.

I dont know where it is either but Ive seen others say you have to post stuff like that in there.

And why did you just bump a thread you just replied to?? Replying does the same thing as 'bumping'

because you replied to a something that had nothing to do with this thread and some people only look at the last post and ur comment made it less visible

Less visible!?
Most people here will read through a thread before they reply.. (unless its 286 pages)

You should probably BUMP your thread again so your questions are more "visible"..

maybe you should stop being a smart A$$ and stop posting in my thread

HAHA "your" thread??
I would think MacRumors owns this thread.

Im not being a "smart ass"
All I was saying is that most people read a whole thread when its only 20 posts long.. BUT now were up to #22 so maybe you should bump it again.

Marketplace requires you to have been registered for 6 months before you can post there. Since you're 6502a as well, you've satisfied the post requirement, now just to wait for April ;)

Since it never got answered. You're starting with DVI, so going from DVI to HDMI won't do a thing. They're both comparable, but I'd go with DVI to DVI because there is no conversion and no chance for a loss of signal.

yea i already got DVI-D to HDMI. No problems, whether its better or not doesnt matter cause almost everything has HDMI now, but thanks for answering my question!
