Man, this blows. I was really pulling for England. I'm a Premier League nut, and Manchester United is my favorite club. Suffice it to say that I enjoyed watching the interestingly coiffured Beckham and his compatriots. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see the US win it all. It just doesn't seem very likely. That's why I had pinned my hopes on England. Damn the man!

Well, this makes my life a little bit easier. I've had to split my support between england and spain (my second home :)). Now i can support just one team full time. That referee was a joke though. What match was he watching? Sent off the best player on the pitch (Ronaldinho) for an innocuous challange, yellow-carded Rio Ferdinand for nothing..... spoilt it for me

Spain for the World Cup!

Hey common.... it's no disgrace to lose to Brazil......... they played incredibly well considering they were down to 10 men for the second half...... IMHO the way England played today they simply didn't deserve to win.........

But now it's time for Sven to sort out the duff players such as Scholes who spent most of the match giving the ball away........

Now I'm hoping that the USA can knock out the bloody Germans...... :p

Common USA....... :D

Hmmmm... Good question... Haven't thought about that one yet...

When do they play their next match? We meet at the entrance of the stadium, then we go to the dressing rooms, and then we charge.

Or something.

That's what I'll be doing this afternoon....... it's a shame it's over because there was a real buzz about this England team....... flags are everywhere......... luckily the team is still quite young (excluding Seaman) so hopefully the next world cup we'll be there again....... ;)

Heh heh.... this is true....... :p

I hope the English press don't turn on Sven...... he's the best thing that's happened to the English side in a decade....... but there's certainly a couple of players that shouldn't have been in the side..... and hopefully he'll sort these out.....

So do I, Sven has done a great job as far as I'm concerned and I'd hate to see the sh*ty british papers turn on him.

I'm gutted

I really thought we might do it this time, and throwing away a 1-0 lead was bad.

We simply didn't play well enough to win.

It would be sweet to win it in Germany in 2006 though :D:

Shame on Brazil! I hate them! I was hoping for the Brits, but well, now weŽll have to deal with the EVIL TEAM :p ..in the finals...

Sorry for the US guys, I think football, uhm, soccer, ahem, football wonŽt gain any more popularity - and "Arena" will still mean "Stadium" :D

There is still a team which is my personal favourite to win the cup: Senegal! They may knock even Brazil, the lucky guys!

Been drinkin' beer since the start of the second half this morning about 8.15GMT. I just got back from the pub half an hour ago (went out to a few more about 11 ish) and I'm more glad we had that bit of comic relief on the show after the england vs brazil match, it sort of cheered everyone up.

I'm not looking forward to my hangover tommorow though, I'm just glad we got this far and had a good time going out to watch the matches in the early hours of the morning.

I started drinking at the start of the second half as well.....

I'm one of those lucky people that doesn't get hangovers... whenever I've been on a real heavy night..... the next morning I'm as happy as larry..... :D no headache nothing....... :D

It's a real shame about England though... I was loving the matches..... :( and the atmosphere in pubs has been brilliant....

guys, don't you feel so sorry for david seaman?

i mean this is probably his last world cup and what a horrible way for him to finish.

I know he's one of the best goalies in the world, but he may be remembered as the guy who got us knocked out of the world cup. Personally I think danny Mills deserves that title, don't you think??

And its great that we have some international class players now, like RIO Ferdinand....... we have a future

Don't really feel sorry for him..... he made a juniors mistakes by coming off his line..... what a div...... but apart from that he's had a solid World Cup...... and as I've said...... it's no disgrace losing to Brazil........ but we should have played alot better.....

Personally I think Scholes was our worst player..... the guy was terrible.... I lost count of the amount of times that he lost the ball because of crap control....... (although he just had a bad game... he has played brilliantly in the past)

Ultimately it just wasn't our day... we feared and gave too much respect to Brazil when really we had the team to knock them into the ground......

But the team is young.... and they'll bounce back..... I just hope they get a solid reception like the irish gave their team when they returned home......

i have to disagree with you iGav

seaman was expecting a cross.

he made a choice and it turned out to be the wrong decision, it happens. problem is ppl like you will go round calling one of the most respectable players in the world a div, and as this is almost certainly his last world cup, its not a nice way to leave the game. If you don't believe me listen to yourself about scholes, scholes is a great playe, but had a bad match, no need to tell him off too much. Look at the way Heskey bounced back after several poor games, he was incredible today.

Cross or not.... he should not have left his line, one of the best free kick specialists in the world...... there was always the chance he would go for the shot...... in that situation you do not leave your line..... plain and simple..... we have the defense to counter a cross........ Seaman made a juniors error..... mistakes happen...... but I also said that he's had a solid World Cup and has played outstandingly well and your are indeed correct about him being a respected player... but that does not make him beyond criticsm for making a stupid junior error that cost us possibly a place in the next round!

As for Scholes....... I stand by what I said... he played terribly..... he kept losing the ball at almost every opportunity........ again I'm very much aware that he's a good player...... I said that in my post..... but today he was very, very poor...... and was my worst player of the match...... the same way as you seem to hold Danny Mills in the same regard.........

I really don't think Seaman will be remembered for having been the one that got us knocked out... I don't think people will personally hold him responsible.... even though he has apologised to the entire nation as such...... ultimately football is a team sport and today we simply weren't good enough........

The Community Discussion Forum was created to allow for threads/posts which have absolutely no relation to computing/technology. If you really want a mac angle on it, perhaps we could start discussing the use of video replays being made available to referees? (video replays involve quick and simple editing of footage, which obviously would be best done on a mac ;))

To make things ever worse for me, spain have just been knocked out. I have now officially lost interest in this world cup :(

Video replays would make one hell of a difference to football... particularly on this type of scale...... as you would have seen by the Spain game..... there was some bad calls that cost Spain the match..... had they have had video replys then the outcome of the match would have been very different.......
