everybody come together, help me setup my KDX server!

ok, i need everyone who has KDX client to check if you can connect to my server.

here are the details:

server name: Muggets TiBook
address: 192.168.0.2:10700
login: guest
password: guest

it's no good going to trackers, they try to connect you to a bogus IP address. i have no idea why it's doing that.
i can connect from my other PC that i have, and it works fine.
anyone have any ideas?

Oh come on, how do you expect people to connect to your server if you're using an internal IP address? Nobody's gonna be able to connect unless they're on your local lan. The entire 192.168.x.x subnet is reserved for local traffic.

yeah.. theres no way to acess your server..

do you have a linksys router? then you can fix the problem.. and ppl can acess yer server..

IP addresses that start with either 192 or 169 are typically either internal network numbers or non-numbers. On the network at work, when someone tries to go online and the port is not live (that they are plugging the Mac into) the TCP/IP address comes up as 169.xxx.xxx.xxx. We have some 192 numbers, but most of the live internal network connections are 168.

BTW, I just attempted to ping your server at that IP address... 100% packet loss. Essentially it means that you are NOT on the internet. Looks like you have an intranet server there Sparky.

I dont think cb911 has a linksys router....mine asigns IPs under 192.168.1.x, not 192.168.0.x.....maybe cb911's setup is different though

cb911, check out http://www.whatismyipaddress.com/ (sorry if you get a popup) and try using the IP listed there. this is probably how everybody else on the net will see your server. :D

From the IP you have given it sounds like an internal LAN IP (as others have allready said).
So I presume you are behind a router which actualy has your connection to the web?
On the router you need to use the port forwarding feature (Linksys has it I presume others do to), you want to make requests to your WAN IP (IP from your ISP) to port 10700 forward to your internal IP hosting the service, which for you (from what I understand) is 192.168.0.2.
Then requests from anyone on the web to your actual IP (not LAN IP) on that port should be forwarded to your machine on the LAN hosting the service.

yeah, i'm connected to the net via a Net Gear cable router. i went to http://www.whatismyipaddress.com/ and it came up with this: 211.28.96.9
verbose101, i'll try what you suggested with the port forwarding feature, although it might take me awhile to figure this out.

i also turn my TiBook off at night, so depending on where you are, you might be trying at the wrong time.

yep you'll prolly need to enable port forwarding, but getting 211.28.96.9 you're now half way there :D
