Ok ok ok, I know... I tired of this "next week" BS for the powerbook updates, but I found this at MacMall (see below). It probably means nothing, but why the push for Monday night at 9pm? Please, please let there be updates.
Maybe I'm just looking for excuses to believe the updates are soon....

Could be just an Easter promo to increase sales when this holiday is normally a slump for them...?

You're probably right..... I hate reading too deeply into things.

Hey ya never know. Of course if we keep guessing eventually we'll get it right!

I've given up taking promos as a hint for updates. What worries me is that there is no solid rumour on PB updates.

Yeah, this was one of those "shoot from the hip" threads. I dunno, I'm just so looking for anything that might point to an update soon because if they don't update this tuesday, I gotta buy. And I know I'm going to be more than a little agro when they release updates the week after that.....
True, if every week we say "next week" we'll be right 1 out of 52 times (they way these updates have been going.....):(

The 9PM probably just has something to do with the time zone differences- it's midnight here on the east coast.

Very interesting- does anyone know if Apple lets resellers know when they will be refreshing their stocks/updating products?

Haven't you seen enough false alarms yet to know better? It's a sale, guys...businesses run these sometimes.

A solid rumor? Aren't rumors by definition not?

*sigh* No new updates.... Even though I am not in the market, it would be nice to get some PB updates. I need something to drool over ... and the current PB's just weren't enough of a bump IMO. Here's to next Tuesday

You might get lucky with a G4PB update but I can't see Steve releasing the G5PB unless he gets to do it in person at the WWDC end of June...

Oh, no...Of course not. A new G5PB would be buggy and such, too....I will take an updated G4PB...I just don't want to buy one and then they update them. Even if the update is just "Hey, we added one more firewire port," I REALLY don't want to miss it. Please Apple....Help me out here. I have been wanting one of your beautiful pieces of work for some time now and am ready to be a full time switcher before college. You won me over with the iPod, Apple, and so let's give it some good use by pairing it up with its updated G4PB cousin...Ppppllllllllleeeeeeaaaaassssseee?!!?! :(

At ClubMac the stocks of the 12 inch powerbooks total 200 for both models. There are a lot of 15 inchers left and only 400 17inchers. We could see updates. It would make sense to me for there to be a small bump.

Do you guys think there's a possibility that the update will only affect the 12" and 17" models? I'm getting a 15" as soon as the new updates are announced (will be my first Mac ever), so I'm getting kind of anxious.

I'm really annoyed by this line of thinking. Why do we assume that it will be buggy? Everyone cries about wanted G5 Powerbooks, but then immediately disses them for being potentially problematic.
It seems like everyone wants G5 revB Powerbooks to be released next!

Nah. Not a chance.
The 15 inchers sell the most.

I bought my 12" two weeks ago, hooked it to my 17" Studio Display, and I'm not looking back. They can update either or both--I don't care, I'm happy with what I've got.

512 ram across the whole range. Its a powerbook after all.
Less than $400 US for that 1.8 inch extra screen space would be nicer.
G5 of course would be more ideal for me... ;)

I hope this is the case. I'm just looking for a simple 12" combo with enough power for the next two years (or until I get the urge again...). That would be nice if they upper the Video cards. If those updates happen, it's powerbook buyin' time for me.
edit: Holy crap. I just went from a "macrumors regular" to a "macrumors 6502"! 500 posts! Yay me! Wow... has it been about a year and a half since I joined??? Time flies....

resellers never know about updates ahead of time. they usually have to wait a while to get the actual product.

I ordered a refurb from apple on Wed. If the new PBs come out this week, am I eligible for whatever price drop refund that might exist? That is, are there refunds for the refurb buyers? Yes, I am assuming that the price on the refurbs will drop as well.

Even though I broke down on Friday and got a 15" SuperDrive, I would not mind an update on Tuesday. I would hate having to pay the 10% restock fee, but if the update was worth it I wouldn't mind. Hell, I did have a lot of fun playing with it this weekend. And if the price of the new PB is ~$2400, and hopefully the same $200-$300 EDU discount, it might be a wash.

By "solid rumour" I mean a rumour that is at least partially substantial. Right now, all rumours we hear seem to have grown out of pure imagination, whisful thinking or just guessing.
