k. so i managed to get the 3.0 beta (who hasn't?) and downloaded it. oblivious to the fact that i needed to be a dev. so once it was done it said i needed to enter dev info. i looked it up online and it said that you could disconnect your internet. tried it, didn't work... then i read that a bunch of people were selling slots, only problem, i don't have a paypal or credit card or anything! please help! i really wanted to try out the beta, if someone could add me to their dev account that would be greatly appreciated! ;)

Reason number one why I never install any beta software on a peripheral/handheld device...

I haven't; and NOW I can see why. Keep us advised on any changes to your bricked 3G iPhone, just in case anyone else finds their way here, maybe we can give them a hand.....:(:(:(:(:(:(:(

It's a shame some people can't search.. The internet is a very useful tool, if used wisely.

Frankly, people who are selling spots are idiots and are going to eventually lead Apple to rethink it's developer relationships. Legit devs like myself and others will pay the price.

Stop cheating the system and buy the $99 developer license!

From the SDK agreement:
2.1 Confidential Nature of Pre-Release SDK
From time to time during the Term, Apple may provide You with pre-release versions of the SDK
that constitute Apple Confidential Information and are subject to the confidentiality obligations of
this Agreement. Such pre-release versions of the SDK should not be relied upon to perform in the
same manner as a final-release commercial-grade product, nor should they be used with data
that is not sufficiently and regularly backed up.

2.2 Permitted Uses and Restrictions
Subject to the terms and conditions of this Agreement, Apple hereby grants You during the Term,
a limited, non-exclusive, personal, revocable, non-sublicensable and non-transferable license to:

(a) Install a reasonable number of copies of the SDK on Apple-branded computers owned or
controlled by You, to be used internally by You or Your Authorized Users for the sole purpose of
developing or testing Applications; and

(b) Make and distribute a reasonable number of copies of the Documentation to Authorized
Users for their internal use only and for the sole purpose of developing or testing Applications.

2.5 No Other Permitted Uses
You agree not to rent, lease, lend, upload to or host on any website or server, sell, redistribute, or
sublicense the SDK, in whole or in part, or to enable others to do so. You may not use the SDK
for any purpose not expressly permitted by this Agreement. You agree not to install, use or run
the SDK on any non-Apple-branded computer, or to enable others to do so. You may not and You
agree not to, or to enable others to, copy (except as expressly permitted under this Agreement),
decompile, reverse engineer, disassemble, attempt to derive the source code of, modify, decrypt,
or create derivative works of the SDK or any services provided by the SDK

Him this is funny because I remember not so long ago someone was selling spot's under his developer program for $10 a pop.. Sounds like he violated the agreement...

I absolutely agree. I hope Apple comes down hard on these idiots reselling the beta.

Because otherwise what will happen is Apple will end up having a smaller, more controllable group of beta testers instead of the entire developer community.

Why on earth would end users who aren't developers want a not-quite-done OS anyway? What is wrong with people?

I don't know. I guess they think they are getting the final product early or something. They don't realize that the beta OS is supplied to give developers an early platform to develop on and to submit bugs.

Either way, I get a bit of a chuckle every time someone who illegally got ahold of the beta bricks their phone. Maybe that's harsh, but I laugh just the same.

+1 It's one thing to jailbreak your phone, but this is just a whole different level.

Honestly I wanted to just try out 3.0 and didn't care if I wasn't a developer. Luckily my phone didn't brick (2G) and I am pretty glad because I restored my phone and did a fresh jailbreak+aptbackup and I kind of liked it because it cleaned out my phone in SOME way since I had a few icky stuff :3 anyways 3.0 was fun but it just didn't do it right. I tried out all the features and even though they look good when you read them, its just the same phone. MMS also doesn't work on 2G phones so no point there :P....

Google is his friend, not us! :p

What's wrong with Jailbreaking? What he did was illegal (I think), Jailbreaking is not.

Sorry but mega fail..

I'm itching to get my hands on the 3.0 OS too, but after seeing how buggy the 2.0 FINAL was I'm definitely going to wait until some of the bugs are ironed out! Sod beta testing on a phone that I need to be able to use.

Enough. No soliciting developers to put your UDID on their list. No offering to give out dev access to non-developers. We ask that you please not bring this discussion to MacRumors.
